Spray Patterns BY AVA CARIDAD Editorial Director High Ridge Brands announced that by simply redeeming coupons for favorite personal care brands, consumers can help provide up to three million showers worth of soap, shampoo, conditioner and other personal care items to impoverished families across the U.S. For each coupon redeemed through March 15 for Rave hair spray, Alberto VO5 and White Rain hair care products and Zest and Coast soaps, High Ridge Brands will donate one showers-worth of products from a participating brand to “Shower to the People,” a poverty relief program run by non-profit organization Family-to-Family. Specialty chemical company Croda International Plc was ranked 28th in the top Global 100 Most Sustainable Corporations in the World for a second consecutive year. In its tenth year, the index is recognized as the gold standard in corporate sustainability evaluation. It assesses 12 quantitative indicators, covering financial, social and environmental performance of around 4,000 of the world’s largest listed companies. The announcement was made the day after sustainability analysts Trucost identified Croda as being one of just 34 Natural Capital Decoupling Leaders, defined as companies who “increased revenue while decreasing natural capital impacts in their operations and supply chain over the last five years.” Additionally, Croda announced that its manufacturing sites in New Castle, DE and Mill Hall, PA have been awarded the European Federation for Cosmetic Ingredients Good Manufacturing Practice certification. The Union of European Football Associations (UEFA), Europe’s football governing body, has announced that an aerosol used to mark free kick distances would be tested at the upcoming European Under-17 Championships. The continent’s organizers confirmed that its Executive Committee had given the green light for the spray, invented by Argentine Pablo César Silva and widely used in South America, to be used in May’s tournament, held in Malta. “Depending on how this test pans out, the spray could be used in other UEFA competitions,” a UEFA statement declared. The aerosol leaves white foam on the grass that disappears one minute later, and is used by referees to mark out the distance that defenders must stand from a player taking a free kick. Aerosol ham, self-cooking meals and non-melting ice cream are among the innovations consumers would like to see from food manufacturers, according to an independent survey by market analyst TNS. The annual survey canvassed 12,000 consumers and 16% said they would like to see aerosol ham as a future innovation, with 5% declaring it to be “the next big thing.” Almost half (46%) opted for self-cooking meals, while 39% wanted non-melting ice cream and 27% had a hankering for pre-toasted toast. www.foodmanufacture.co.uk.
