To sweeten the deal to the prospective buyer, then Virginia Governor Bob McDonnell approved a $650,000 grant from the Governor’s Opportunity Fund to help Henrico County with the project and an $800,000 performance-based grant from the Virginia Investment Partnership. The Virginia Dept. of Business Assistance also provided help with staff retraining and recruitment. Back in France, Fareva had previously expressed a desire to move into the U.S. market, opening a U.S. headquarters in Princeton, NJ and eventually buying the Henrico plant. “We already had a partnership with Pfizer in Europe,” Fareva’s U.S. CEO, Laurent Miale told Ch. 12. “We’d bought two of their factories in the past.” Fareva’s arrival in Virginia came with the announcement that it would invest approximately $40 million and create 90 more jobs over the next few years. It continues to make Pfizer products at the Henrico plant. Spray aerosol lines for personal care, two lines for liquid (mouthwash) and one aerosol line for household products. “Once the facility is entirely built, we expect to have 100–120 employees,” he added. According to Zaydman, Retycol S.A. will be filling pharmaceuticals such as corticoids, as well as over-the-counter (OTC) health care products such as antimicotics, antiinflammatories, analgesics and nasal solutions. Other OTC products will include sunscreens, antiperspirant/deodorants, cosmetics, foot deodorants, body sprays, shaving foams and gels, hair spray, selftanners and body lotions. Products will be exported worldwide. The filling plant will offer both conventional aerosol and bag-on-valve (BOV) technologies. “Natural Aerosol” is the trademark name of Retycol’s BOV technology. Novasol Technology (a Trademark of Aquanova AG) will be implemented for cosmentics and pharamaceutical products Fareva USA announces BOV capacity According to Fareva USA, its factory in Henrico, VA, near Richmond, will begin to manufacture and fill products for bagon valve aerosols. Fareva USA is the U.S.-based manufacturing site affiliated with French contract filler Fareva. Fareva is one of the largest global contract manufacturers in the world. It has 31 production sites in ten different countries, more than 7,500 employees and sales of over $1.6 billion. It services four industries: Cosmetics, Pharmaceuticals, Home Care & Industrial and Food. In October 2011, Fareva expanded into the U.S., with the acquisition of a Pfizer plant in Henrico. The facility had over 25 years of successful contract manufacturing and packaging experience of liquids, syrups, lip balms, creams, ointments, gels and lotions, as well as a strong compliance record with the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) that included established quality systems, including quality risk management. It has 745,000 combined square feet, 500 employees and is GMP certified. Pharmaceutical company Pfizer acquired the Henrico plant when it bought out drug firm Wyeth, then planned to close it.
