Solid gains in Personal Care and Household Products fuel growth... This represents a 6.4% gain over 2012’s total of 272 million units, which in itself represented a 1.7% increase over 2011. The Personal Care sector accounted for over 119.6 million units (41% of all production), an increase of 8.6% over the previous year’s total. This marks steady growth in consecutive years for the sector following a substantial decline in 2011. Household Products followed closely behind at 111.7 million units filled, a 7.7% jump as compared to 2012. Hairsprays and Insecticides were among the biggest winners, rising 18.2% and 15.6%, respectively. Other categories seeing significant increases were Shoe/Leather Care (24.3%), Automotive products (15.3%), Deodorants/ Antiperspirants (6.9%), Shaving Mousse (5.6%) and Furniture Waxes/Polishes (5.5%). Following a nearly 10% decline in 2012, Air Fresheners bounced back slightly, rising 2.2% to over 53 million units filled. Paints & Varnishes also grew by 387,000 units, an increase of 2.7%. Proportionally, Food Products were a breakthrough category in 2013, with over 8 million units filled, a whopping 834.5% climb from 2012’s 867,000. Pharmaceutical products struggled, with 22.2% fewer fillings. Other categories seeing significant declines were Shaving Gel (-19.1%), Hair Mousse (-14.1%) and Party Decorations (-34.3%). From a packaging standpoint, steel cans continued to make up the lion’s share of aerosol packaging in Spain, increasing 6.9% to over 183 million units and accounting for 63.4% of total aerosol fillings. Aluminum cans rose also, up 5.5 million units to 106 million (5.5%). 1" valves continued to be the dominant choice for fillers, rising 9% to over 257 million units. 20mmsized valves fell 10.8% to 32.6 million units.
