Organized under the banner of the Asian Aerosol Federation (AAF), the event featured an Aerosol Industry Forum titled Towards a Sustainable Future at the National Maritime Museum in Darling Harbor, as well as the 9th Aerosol Industry Awards Gala Dinner at iconic Luna Park. AAF holds annual meeting concurrently The AAF held its third annual meeting in Sydney as part of aerosolsydney2014. European Aerosol Federation (FEA) President Dr. Rolf Bayersdörfer joined the meeting, which also welcomed Nigel Jackson—until recently Chairman of the British Aerosol Manufacturers’ Association (BAMA)—as part of the contingent representing the Thai Aerosol Association. The meeting discussed regional implementation of the Globally Harmonized System (GHS) and country representatives updated the meeting on progress with regional harmonization of aerosol can standards. Australia was elected to a second term as head of the Federation, with Japan serving as its VP. The next meeting of the Federation will be held in India in 2015. Celebrating 20 years of aerosol excellence Over 270 executives from the aerosol industry throughout the Asian region gathered in the heritage-listed Luna Park amusement park, under the shadow of Sydney’s renowned Harbor Bridge, to recognize excellence and innovation in the regional aerosol industry. Australian Aerosol Association President John Bigley welcomed the sell-out crowd and noted that the imperatives that led the Association to launch the awards in 1994 were just as relevant in 2014 as they were then. The Award for Sustainability went to local can maker Ardagh Group and its Taree, New South Wales aluminum aerosol plant for its sustained commitment to operational improvements that also led to economic benefits.   A Highly Commended award in this category was presented to MTi Group for its Blast Bag ZERO. From its pioneering use of the Honeywell Solstice HFO propellant to its solar reflective packaging and temperature sensitive thermo-chromatic indicator, the judges noted that the new Blast Bag ZERO addressed environmental, economic and workplace safety issues with innovation and thoroughness. Blast Bag ZERO also won the Award for Innovation—Process for its patented two stage trigger with horizontal activation and the two different-sized orifices which offer two-speed filling of the gas From left: FEA President Rolf Bayersdörfer; AAF President Lindsay Showyin; and Australian Aerosol Association President John Bigley
