AEROBAL Announces World
Aluminum Aerosol Can Award winners
Global can production stays the course in 2017
The International Organization of Aluminum Aerosol Container
Manufacturers (AEROBAL) announced the winners
of the 2017 World Aluminum Aerosol Can Awards. The
expert panel of judges was comprised of journalists from wellknown
international packaging and can magazines and entries
were invited from all over the world.
There were two winners in the “Aluminum Cans Already on the
Market” category this year: TAG Body Spray with a can from U.S.
producer CCL and L’Oréal Men Expert Series Antiperspirant in a
can from Ball Corp. (USA) tied for first place honors.
In the recent relaunch of the TAG Body Spray by MY Import
USA LLC, a customized and environmentally friendly design
lended the can its exclusivity in shape and style, providing an eyecatching
presence at the point of sale,
according to AEROBAL.
Ball Corp. used its ReAl technology
to make the new L’Oréal Men Expert
Antiperspirant can. The technology enables
the production of cans with more
complex shapes and, at the same time, uses higher percentages of
recycled materials and offers greater potential to reduce weight.
Ball also chalked up a victory in the “Prototype” category with
its Tactile aluminum can utilizing technology known as tactile
or raised ink. Tactile patterns and structures can be applied 360°
around the can with design and marketing possibilities for all sorts
of products or applications. In addition to the snake motif with
reptilian skin texture and visually appealing coloring, it is also
possible to create honeycomb surfaces or replicate the surfaces of
citrus fruits.
“The numerous prototypes in the competition demonstrate the
diverse and exciting possibilities this packaging opens up in the
global packaging markets of the future,” said AEROBAL Secretary
General Gregor Spengler.

“Additionally, the tie for first place also shows the great breadth
of quality at the international level that our members deliver…
and their constant commitment to the further development of
aluminum aerosol cans.”
In addition, AEROBAL announced that, in the first half of
2017, members delivered 2.9 billion aluminum aerosol cans worldwide,
approximately the same amount as 2016, a year that ended
with record results for the industry.
“We are right on course once again,” noted Spengler, adding
that he was satisfied with the performance of aluminum aerosol
cans in the international packaging market.
“The trend for deodorants was especially favorable,” he added.
“Growth reached 5% in the first half of 2017. Unfortunately, we
did not expand at quite the
same rate with hair care products
and shaving cream. Both
segments were down from their
mid-year level of last year.”
The lion’s share of total
production, about 80%, continues to be body care and beauty
products. The pharmaceutical sector, food industry and the markets
for household and chemical/technical products made up the
remaining 20% of production output.
Spengler said the only drawbacks in the favorable mid-year figures
were the higher commodity costs, with prices of aluminium,
lacquers, varnishes and printing inks increasing considerably.
AEROBAL President Eric Frantz expressed confidence that
the outstanding results of the previous year can be achieved
again in 2017
“The great powers of innovation our industry displays are
impressive,” he said. “The many new product ideas make me
very optimistic about the continued success of aluminum
aerosols.” Spray
