or follow the campaign on Instagram and Facebook. Three to
five times each week, new posts are added showing how aerosol
products make consumers’ lives better. There are posts reminding
them to use insect repellents before hiking and fun flashback
posts showing some early uses of aerosol products. There are
posts that provide hair styling tips for men and women. The
theme of all these posts is how aerosol products make consumers’
lives better and easier. This active promotion will continue and
followers are being tracked so we can measure the success of the
campaign.
Bold step in a new direction
Some weeks ago, an industry colleague approached me about
the Make More Magic campaign and asked me if I really thought
that it could gain the necessary momentum to grow and thrive.
I thought for a moment and then I answered very honestly, “I
don’t know, but what I do know is that what we have been doing
isn’t moving the needle in a meaningful way and if we expect different
results, we can’t keep doing the same thing and expecting
perceptions to magically change.”
It takes action to make change. This campaign is a bold step
in a new direction. The campaign is now under the direction of
the Consumer Aerosol Products Council (CAPCO), which has
worked tireless for this industry for decades. This group knows
that the success of this campaign depends on the aerosol industry
and its ability to come together behind a new message, a new story
and a new way forward. For this campaign to gain momentum,
we need the aerosol industry to support it. We need industry
members to follow the campaign on Facebook and Instagram.
We need to encourage employees and coworkers to follow these
pages. We need to build a solid social media base so that when
people search online for aerosol products, our content moves to
the top of the search results.
While CAPCO took a two-year hiatus to reorganize, it will
begin again in 2018, and the campaign needs funding to grow.
One of the amazing things about this industry is that when
there is a cause that needs wide support, the aerosol products
community always rallies. There have been many companies and
individuals who have already stepped up with generous support
of the Make More Magic campaign, but more support is needed
from large suppliers and consumer products companies.
Consumers who use aerosol products don’t want to be told
that they are safe, they simply want to be told that our products
will make them safer. Consumers don’t want to know that aerosol
products don’t contain CFCs, they want to know that their
loved ones won’t get the Zika virus while having a family gathering
on a warm summer evening. Consumers want to know how
we can make their lives better.
