office space for more than 100 cleantech startups, a 24-bench wet
lab, electric and hydrogen fuel cell vehicle charging stations and
a 500-person event space which will serve as a convener for the
global cleantech community.
Givaudan announced the introduction of “A Sense of Tomorrow,”
a new approach for its global sustainability activities. Under
an umbrella framework, the approach consolidates Givaudan’s
commitments in three focus areas: Sourcing for shared value
(ensuring that all raw materials are sourced in a way that respects
people and the environment); Innovating responsibly (creating
more value for customers and key stakeholders through a
strategy of sustainable product development) and Acting for our
environment (implementing an ambitious climate action agenda
by reducing greenhouse gas emissions and taking action for the
environment across Givaudan’s operations and beyond). The
approach is designed to support the United Nations Sustainable
Development Goals, with a particular focus on areas where the
company considers it can make the greatest impact.
Givaudan also announced the official opening of its new
Fragrance Creative Center in Mexico City, Mexico. Strategically
situated close to key customers and their markets, the new center
has approximately 2,800 square meters and will host creative and
development teams, application and technology labs, marketing
and consumer market research, as well as commercial teams for
Mexico and Central America. Spray
Ball Corp. will cease food can production at the company’s Spring
TerraCycle manages the collection process, working with cleanup
organizations on six continents. The project was announced at
the World Economic Forum in January and the first bottles went
on store shelves in France this summer.
International Flavors & Fragrances Inc. (IFF) is commissioning
a new fragrance ingredients plant in Jiande, located in China’s
Zhejiang Province. The new facility occupies approximately
165,000 square meters and will serve IFF customers globally.
The facility was designed to have the lowest water consumption
per kilo of production in IFF’s operations network. In addition,
a state-of-the-art odor abatement system was installed to help
ensure environmental compliance. By leveraging the latest
technologies available, the company believes that from the first
full year of production, the Jiande plant will be one of IFF’s most
resource-efficient manufacturing locations globally.
Greentown Labs, a cleantech startup incubator from Somerville,
MA, announced BASF as a Founding Sponsor of the Greentown
Labs Global Center for Cleantech Innovation. Through
this sponsorship, BASF will work closely with Greentown Labs’
member companies to help them create their developments in
the incubator’s new wet lab and bring them to market faster. The
Greentown Labs Global Center for Cleantech Innovation will
serve as the incubator’s headquarters and transform the incubator
into a multi-facility campus totaling more than 100,000 sq. ft.
