it possible to promote the quest for alternatives, test the proposals of suppliers and share results in a transparent, impartial manner. Robust replacement solutions have emerged, and the scope of the working group on aerosol liners now extends to the implementation of solutions to replace epoxy phenolic varnishes, which contain Bisphenol-A (BPA). For several years now, BPA has been a focal point of attention for manufacturers and, more recently, the European regulatory bodies. Heightened concern about its effects as a human endocrine disruptor is borne out by increasing numbers of scientific studies. Already identified in several lists of substances of concern, BPA will indeed be banned in all forms of packaging for the marketing of foodstuffs in France (Law n° 2012-1442 of 24 December 2012) as of Jan. 1, 2015. Even if BPA is already banned as a product ingredient, it has become necessary for industry to monitor its presence in packaging in the event traces may leach from packaging substances into a formulation. It is to be expected that the presence of BPA in other common consumer goods will strongly mobilize the attention of consumers and non-government organizations (NGOs) in the coming months outside of France. The French Aerosols Committee, representing the industrial players of France, is thus mobilized and encourages the industry to quickly introduce new aerosol varnish linings that exclude chemical risks.
