International News Ukraine’s Income & Tax Ministry proposes introducing an environmental tax on goods in aerosol cans, detergents and household chemicals, fluorescent lamps, polymeric materials, plastics, raw rubber and rubber, and articles made of them. Nu Skin Enterprises, Inc. has received official approval from China’s Ministry of Commerce to commence direct selling activities in five additional provinces and 30 districts. The provinces include Anhui, Gansu, Chongqing, Shaanxi and Yunnan. Nu Skin’s direct selling footprint will now include 19 of the country’s 32 provinces and municipalities. Nu Skin is accelerating infrastructure plans, including tripling the number of stores and sales support centers by 2015 and expanding manufacturing capabilities within the market by the end of 2013. Mergers & Acquisitions Colep, with headquarters in Europe and the One Asia Network, an alliance of three companies (Daizo Corp. of Japan, with operations in Japan, Thailand and China, Pax Australia and Asian Aerosols of India), have announced the creation of a global supply network, through the establishment of a Manufacturing & Technology Agreement, which will cover the whole of their respective organizations and thereby provide supply coverage from Australia, Japan, China, Thailand, India, Poland, Germany, Spain, Portugal and Brazil. “This alliance has materialized in a Manufacturing & Technology Agreement, under which the parties will work together in Innovation, Research & Development, 30 Spray October 2013 Bell Flavors & Fragrances has opened a facility in Guadalajara, Mexico to serve as a hub of new product creation, customer collaboration and direct consumer testing for the company’s flavor and fragrance customers in the Mexican market and other parts of Latin America. The 900-squaremeter facility, called Centro Innovación Bell, was added to Bell’s existing plant in Guadalajara and uses both sustainable “green” building technologies and LEED rated systems. It is equipped with a culinary center with three test kitchens, as well as two fragrance labs for the creation and testing of fragrances in three key categories: personal care, household care and cosmetic consumer products. The consumer product sensory lab tests new flavors and fragrances directly with customers. Givaudan has partnered with JWT Singapore to create customized “Smell a Memory” kits that harness the power of scent to evoke emotional memories among Alzheimer’s and dementia patients. The kits are personalized for individual patients based on each patient’s family history, ethnicity, age and personal stories. Givaudan’s perfumers, in consultation with therapists and rehabilitation experts, tailor-made smells such as “Bedtime Stories,” “Mom’s Cooking,” “Prayer,” “School Days” and more to provoke engagement through experiential smells. Givaudan Singapore and JWT are in the process of organizing further trials at two of Singapore’s largest hospitals. The Singapore project has been so successful that Givaudan said it plans to extend the program to other regions. Amway plans to establish an Asia Beauty Innovation Center in Seoul, South Korea, underscoring an increased global investment in research, development and marketing strategies in China and southeast Asia. Personal care packaging and product manufacturer Topline Products announced the formation of a new manufacturing site, Topline Tianjin. Located near Beijing, China, the manufacturing facility is equipped to produce different types of beauty packaging, as well as components for the automotive, electronics and medical industries. Evonik has opened the newly expanded plant for the production of premium raw materials, additives and ingredients for the cosmetic and household care industries in Bekasi, Indonesia. Quality, Operations and Safety, with the aim of delivering superior, faster and streamlined global solutions to our customers,” commented Vitor Neves, CEO of Colep. Speaking on behalf of the One Asia Network, Nobuyuki Minami, President of Daizo Corp. of Japan, stated “Through this alliance, we are now ready to support our customers on a global basis. This is a major step forward in supporting our customers in the implementation of their projects: bringing innovation to the world.” The alliance does not involve any cross shareholding participation; the manufacturing aspect of the agreement will include sharing of best practice in areas of; safety, manufacturing know-how and efficient practices. Technology exchanges will encompass both formulation and packaging developments, the sharing of aerosol science and technology, and the bringing together of creative dispensing solutions. Revlon and Almay brands will acquire the Colomer Group from CVC Capital Partners for $660 million. The deal will allow Revlon to reach more customers in the professional salon industry, as it gains the American Crew men’s hair care brand, as well as professional nail polishes Creative Nail and Shellac nail polishes. Jarden Corp., known for its Mr. Coffee products, agreed to buy Yankee Candle Co. Inc. for $1.75 billion after private equity owner Madison Dearborn Partners LLC failed to sell for a higher price earlier this year. Yankee Candle, which markets air fresheners, scented candles and accessories, home fragrance products and car fresheners was acquired by Chicagobased Madison Dearborn for $1.6 billion in 2006 and put up for sale earlier this year. Specialty chemicals company Clariant and Saudi Arabian industrial conglomerate Tasnee signed an agreement to establish a masterbatches joint venture in Saudi Arabia. Through its 100% subsidiary Rowad National Plastic Company Ltd., Tasnee will acquire a 40% stake in Clariant’s masterbatches operations in the country, already operating under the name Clariant Masterbatches (Saudi Arabia) Ltd.
