Shopping in a shorter window… With Thanksgiving falling on its latest potential date of Nov. 28 in the U.S., shopping days between Thanksgiving and Christmas are the fewest possible in 2013, as opposed to 2012, which had the maximum shopping days possible between the two holidays. This traditionally causes concern for retailers, especially as consumers have been spending less since 2008 anyway; now there is an even a shorter span in when to spend it. According to Time magazine, retailers have concluded that the formula for increasing seasonal sales totals is mostly based on increasing holiday promotions, deals, and store hours—hours that now include Thanksgiving night (even though it has caused a backlash among certain consumers). Not only is it standard for stores to open on Thanksgiving, but the holiday season now overlaps with the back-to-school shopping period, with promos and Christmas displays popping up in early September. Other holiday shopping trends include online spending, which was up sharply in 2012 on Thanksgiving, Black Friday and Cyber Monday alike (increasing 17% or more compared to corresponding days in 2011), and consumers didn’t tire of online shopping in the weeks that followed. Another dominant trend in retail, according to Time, was the merging of online and offline shopping. Retailers with a presence on the Web and in actual stores seem to have embraced the idea that both segments must be partners, sending the same message to shoppers Other retail trends this for season are forecasted to be shipping deals on merchandise, price matching, layaway options, deep discounting and “self-gifting”—treating oneself to presents, especial during holiday sales. Gift cards will also remain popular, as recipients know their own preferences best and enjoy picking out things for themselves. Tru Fragrance also announced Honey as the HipNote for the fall season. A versatile scent that adapts attributes from its origins, honey can be woodsy, floral or herbal. HipNote Honey comes from the Acacia shrub, giving it a complex sweetness and delicate, floral aroma. It features top notes of delicate freesia, hedione and muguet, which evoke the feeling of a fresh fall breeze, blooming flowers and a vision of bees working effortlessly in a scenic garden.  The scent was crafted by perfumer Pierre Negrin of Firmenich.
