Industry News Sun & Skin Care Research recently completed the acquisition of the popular sunscreen brand Bull Frog from Chattem, Inc., a Division of Sanofi US. According to the company, Bull Frog has a history of innovation and was the first sun care brand to provide water resistant protection and the first mass marketed sunscreen/insect repellent line. Launched in 1985 in California, Bull Frog offered serious sun protection to surfers who spent hours in the water. Other products in the Sun & Skin Care Research portfolio of brands include Ocean Potion, NO-AD and Parrot head Margaritaville. All products are made in Cocoa, FL. Avon Products Inc. announced it will slash more than 400 jobs and exit the Irish market, the latest moves in 16 Spray May 2013 the new CEO’s plan to return the beauty products company to profitability in the next two years. The world’s largest direct seller of cosmetics is already showing signs of stabilizing its business under new CEO Sheri McCoy, who was brought in a year ago and who received a $12.9 million bonus only days before the announcement, following years of inconsistent sales in Brazil and Russia and dwindling business in China and the U.S. In December, the company set an annual cost savings target of $400 million by the end of 2015 and said it would exit South Korea and Vietnam. McCoy said at an investor conference in February that she had no qualms about exiting unprofitable markets to focus on emerging markets. She said a key priority is to reverse a long sales slide in the U.S. The cuts, which will be completed by the end of the year, are expected to generate $45–$50 million in annual savings. Avon has 39,100 employees and more than six million active sales representatives. Additionally, former Avon CEO Andrea Jung, whom was replaced by McCoy, has taken on a new role in the automotive industry, serving on the board of Germany’s Daimler AG, the world’s third-largest maker of luxury cars. The American Cleaning Institute’s (ACI) Annual Meeting & Convention in February attracted 810 attendees, the highest total in a decade, according to ACI Chairperson Catherine Ehrenberger of Amway. Moreover, ACI corporate membership was expected to reach 131 companies following the meeting, up from 113 companies a year ago. The new total represents the highest member since 2003, according to Tom O’Brien, ACI treasurer.
