Spray Patterns BY AVA CARIDAD Editorial Director L’Oréal inaugurated its first factory in the Middle East in February, located near Cairo, Egypt. With an investment totaling €50 million ($55.9 million), the new factory will be the production hub for L’Oréal’s Consumer Products Division in the Middle East & North Africa (MENA) region. The new Cairo plant manufactures L’Oréal Paris and Garnier products, employs 200 people and is the first LEED Silver certified factory in Egypt. Distribution of products is 10% into Egypt and 90% into the rest of MENA. 46 Spray April 2015 Nigel Jackson, Group Technical Director for Asia & Thailand, Precision Valve Corp., was awarded the Rotheim Medal during the Indian Aerosols Expo held in February in Mumbai, India. Named after the inventor of the aerosol, Erik Rotheim, the medal has been awarded only to a small number of industry professionals for outstanding service to the aerosol sector and the European Aerosol Federation (FEA). FEA Secretary General Alain D’haese commented, “It is a real pleasure for me to award the Rotheim Medal to Nigel Jackson for his outstanding contribution to FEA, more specifically as Packaging & Contents Committee Chairman, but also to the global aerosol industry.” Pictured: Jackson (left) accepts the Rotheim Medal from D’haese. Suppliers of aerosol cans in the UK gave rather varied statements regarding last year’s market developments, according to www.euwidpackaging. com. Some EUWID respondents reported excellent business for 2014, which suggested that the figures would outstrip those of the previous year. The bulk of growth was noted in the personal care sector. Other market participants did not report any major changes compared to 2013. Many said the second half had developed better than the first, but demand for aerosol cans for industrial applications had not been particularly brisk throughout the year. CPL Aromas confirmed a contribution of £200,000 ($307,240) for the year 2015 to the Catholic Aid Agency for England & Wales (CAFOD). CAFOD works in more than 60 countries tackling poverty and injustice and is part of the global Caritas family, who provide assistance to the poor, vulnerable and the excluded. CPL Aromas has been associated with CAFOD since 2000 and since then has made charitable donations each year.
