Industry News Crown Aerosols and Specialty Packaging relocated its Liverpool, UK operations to the Trinity Park section of nearby town Bootle. The innovative new facility is accredited by the British Retail Consortium’s Global Standards and can produce packaging with increased efficiency thanks to the new, modernized equipment. Additionally, printing and coating processes will be available on-site on the facility’s fourcolor printing line. The 27th edition of Luxe Pack Monaco, October 27–29, 2014 at the Grimaldi Forum, will feature famed French designer Patrick Jouin as the guest of honor. Jouin, a winner of the Compasso d’Oro whose resume includes the designs of Paris’s Vélib’ bike sharing system, a luxury vehicle for Renault, numerous restaurants around the globe and works featured in the Museum of Modern Art, will debate Marie Sargueil, President of the French Design Institute. (IFF) opened its new photovoltaic solar installation at the company’s Hazlet, NJ manufacturing plant. With nearly one million solar cells, the 4,000 kilowatt solar installation is expected to supply 40% of the facility’s electrical needs, greatly reducing carbon monoxide emissions, according to the company. Benjamin Moore & Co. unveiled a new version of its ProConnection App, a smartphone application designed to help contractors manage their clients’ projects. Available for both the iPhone and iPad in the Apple App Store, ProConnection allows contractors to organize and quickly access client profiles, Technical Data and Material Safety Data Sheets, local weather forecasts for outdoor projects, an advanced paint calculator and Benjamin Moore’s catalog of over 3,300 different colors. AkzoNobel Surface Chemistry announced a planned relocation of its Personal Care operations from Sempach, Switzerland to its Stenungsund, Sweden regional headquarters during the fourth quarter of 2014. Integration of the Personal Care department into the company’s European regional headquarters will bring opportunities for increased efficiency and synergy across divisions, according to the company. Cosmetics packaging firm Topline Products opened a new 80,000 square foot manufacturing facility in Reynosa, Mexico, featuring expanded filling and assembly capacities and new injection and blow molding equipment. Located seven miles from McAllen, TX, the plant replaces the New Jersey-based company’s previous Reynosa facility. Empac, an association representing the European metal packaging industry, launched a new website, WhyMetalPackaging.com. Created to disseminate the benefits of rigid metal packaging, in particular its environmental sustainability, the website contains a wealth of information and statistics, including a depiction of a “circular economy” in which the same metals can be recycled forever with no loss of material. Lubrizol Corp. broke ground on an expanded new $20 million surfactant plant in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil to meet growing demand for personal care and household products in the Brazilian market. Spray Albéa opened a new manufacturing facility in Suzhou, China, just outside of Shanghai. The 323,000 square-foot, $14 million facility was built to house separate dedicated buildings for the Albéa’s dispensing system, tube and cosmetic rigid packaging operations in the wake of the company’s acquisition of Rexam Personal Care last year. It is Albéa’s fifth industrial site in the world’s most populous country.
