Fragrance Booming in Brazil Fragrance demand is growing faster in Brazil than anywhere else in the world, according to a report by packaging firm MeadWestvaco (MWV). After Elizabeth Arden, Inc. signed an exclusive agreement with women’s designer clothing brand Wildfox Couture to develop and market a line of fine fragrance products. In a continuation of their partnership to develop cost-effective and environmentally sustainable fragrance ingredients, Takasago International Corp. and Amyris announced plans to introduce perfumes containing farnesene-derived fragrance molecules to the international market in early 2015. The announcement came after Amyris, a supplier of renewable products including biofuels, revealed that the molecules had passed feasibility testing. Shiseido Co., Ltd. announced a liscensing agreement allowing the company to produce and distribute perfume products under the Zadig & Voltaire brand name for the next 15 years. The products will fall under Shiseido subsidiary Beauté Prestige International, which features five other fine fragrance brands, including Elie Saab and Jean Paul Gaultier. PPG Industries Inc. announced its acquisition of The Homax Group, a U.S.- doubling its fragrance business in Latin America's largest country in 2013, MWV says it plans to do so again this year. Nature Matters Consumers may be more concerned about natural products when it comes to personal care than previously thought. According to a study commissioned by natural products company Tom’s of Maine, 81% of consumers reported that the absence of artificial preservatives played a significant role when shopping for personal hygiene. The absence of artificial flavors (78%), colors (75%) and gluten (25%) also play a significant role, according to the survey.
