Mary Frash of Ball Corp. presented a
Mist:Understood Update. The Consumer
Aerosol Products Council (CAPCO) activated
its Mist:Understood campaign nationally
in August with a dedicated website
platform to share updated information on
the impacts of aerosol, community building
moments through social media and
in real-life engagements and a series of
creative video content that will showcase
new ways to view aerosol products. Frash
stressed that content should be educational,
not promotional.
On Aug. 18, CAPCO kicked off the
campaign with a locally-driven event in
Denver, CO that focused on the positive
impacts of aerosol products, as well as giving
back to the community
through a collaborative
mural. In order to
demystify conceptions
of aerosol products
through creativity, activity
and environmental
education, CAPCO
tapped local muralist
Mike Graves and neighborhood
hotspot, Illegal Pete’s, to build
awareness through creativity and bring the campaign to life.
A content calendar is planned for the website, and where and when to post
will be decided strategically. The Mist:Understood Facebook page will feature
one activation a month with full video. Activations will feature hair stylists,
custom motorcycle builders, etc., who promote aerosol product through their
craft. Through Mist:Understood, CAPCO hopes to shed a positive and educational
light on the benefits of aerosol products—from making household tasks,
such as cleaning, easier, to providing accuracy and precision to a consumer’s
everyday life, such as spray painting and cooking. To keep up-to-date on
Mist:Understood, visit www.mistunderstood.com and follow the campaign on social
media: Instagram, Twitter and Facebook.
Cynthia Reichard of Arylessence presented an Air Care
Reputation Task Force Update. The origin of the Air Care
Reputation Task Force was ten companies committed to
getting a summit together in May of 2018. The task force
met every two weeks to get it done. At the inaugural HCPA
Air Care Summit, multidisciplinary experts came together to
share and assess the science behind air fresheners. It focused
on reviewing the body of science related to Air Care products,
including ingredients, and having an outside, independent
science advisory panel (SAP) weigh in on both the merits
and limitations of existing research. The SAP included academic and medical
experts in toxicology, inhalation science, pediatrics, pulmonology medicine,
psychology and fragrance research. The goal of this effort was to help consumers
make informed decisions about Air Care products.
The immediate plan was to be proactive in the placement of positive media
by publishing beneficial review papers dealing with the benefits of malodor
removal and developing new safety data with white papers to cover that data.
Longer term goals include developing information on air quality measures and
research into limonene as a positive for the ozone layer.

Keynote speaker Jennifer Duffy, Senior
Editor of the non-partisan Cook Political
Report, provided a post mid-term election
analysis and update. She focused on both
state and national politics, as well as key
voter trends and demographics, the issues
that drive elections, the state of the political
parties, the political health of Congress
and the President, and what we might be
able to expect Frash in 2019 and beyond.
