dedicated direct-to-shape digital printing technology and a low
total cost of ownership (TCO).
Velox direct-to-shape digital decoration technology delivers
multiple benefits, such as full production speed with dramatically
shorter set-up time. This means higher productivity from existing
lines, the ability to deliver short lead times, lower minimum order
quantities (MOQs) and inventory reduction.
Not a four-color process or even a seven-color process, according
to the company, Velox technology delivers 15 colors and embellishments,
all at full speed, at a high quality and cost effectively—thus
enabling a significant leap in aerosol decoration quality. According
to the company, it is not an expensive technology suited only for
short, premium runs. Velox developed its technology specifically to
compete with the analog decoration economics.
Velox technology is composed of two pillars: formulated inks
and a novel printing process. Velox’s Variable Viscosity Inks (VVI)
technology delivers enhanced adhesion and ink efficiency, as well
as improved print head reliability. With its Adaptive Deposition
Architecture (ADA) technology, Velox developed an object-oriented
(i.e. “container-oriented”) printing process. It is not a sheetoriented
or a web-oriented process, nor is it analog direct-to-shape
architecture based.
According to Ofer Nir, VP Marketing & Business Development,
Velox, there are three key mega trends that have direct impact on
aerosol can decoration.
The first is the continuous proliferation of SKUs on the shelf.
Brands are fighting an ever-increasing battle for the consumer’s
attention. Container decoration is a key element in the brand’s
UV Direct Injection technology for personal care
Pin Mao Plastic Industry, headquartered in Taiwan, recently invested in new UV Direct Injection
technology to provide more decoration options. The new technology allows Pin Mao to decorate
the surfaces of packaging components directly without the need to produce more print artwork templates.
This means a piece of artwork can be transferred directly onto the surface of a bottle, jar or other
component without the need for added decoration steps.
The design can be taken from the AI format (Adobe Illustrator), which is a vector format that can easily
be adapted to different surface configurations. The resulting components provide enhanced color
and can be used to create presentations not usually possible using standard silk screen printing or hot
stamping.
