Industry News The Chinese government took action against two companies who were found guilty of manufacturing and selling counterfeit Honeywell refrigerants. Changzi Co. and Yingpeng Co., both of Shanghai, were forced to pay $52,000 in damages and publicly apologize to Honeywell for the misbranding. The raid, seizure and subsequent legal action were results of a cooperative effort between Honeywell and local authorities in Shanghai. Luxe Pack Monaco added a new component to its 2014 exhibition: Luxe formulation. The new space will provide packagers, fillers and suppliers of standard or customized formulation with an exclusive platform from 34 Spray April 2014 which to promote their products and services. The 27th edition of Luxe Pack Monaco will run October 27-29, 2014 at the Grimaldi Forum in Monaco. Avon Products, Inc. revealed plans to target the growing Hispanic community in the U.S. to help reverse a steady drop in sales over the past five years. Avon’s total sales in North America have dropped by 50% since 2007. The Personal Care Products Council published the 15th edition of the International Cosmetic Ingredient Dictionary & Handbook. The updated handbook contains current regulatory information as well as 1,700 new additions to the nearly 20,000 International Nomenclature Cosmetic Ingredient (INCI) labeling names. The new edition can be purchased online at access.personalcarecouncil. org and costs $595 for members and $1,190 for nonmembers. Mergers & Acquisitions Coty and Avon have reached an agreement to allow Avon representatives to sell select Coty fragrance brands in Brazil. Celebrity branded fragrances such as Madonna’s Truth or Dare, Katy Perry’s Killer Queen and some of Jennifer Lopez’s 18 perfume products will be included in Avon’s Brazilian catalogs and available for sale by Avon’s 1.5 million representatives there. Evonik Corp. announced it has successfully completed its merger with Evonik Goldschmidt Corp. Clariant announced the intention to acquire Plastichemix Industries, a masterbatch business in India, located in Vadodara with production facilities in Rania, Kalol and Nandesari in Gujarat, India. Plastichemix Industries is a supplier of black, white, filler and color masterbatches, additive masterbatches, flushed pigments and mono-concentrates as well as engineering plastics compounds.  Gelest Inc. has named Gautavik International, Mumbai, as exclusive Indian distributor for the complete line of Gelest silane, metal-organic and silicone products. Givaudan reached an exclusive agreement with local partners GaiaOne and the Kebun Rimau plantation in Sabah, a Malaysian state on the island of Borneo. The partnership is a development in Givaudan’s sustainability and ethical sourcing initiatives for patchouli oil harvesting.
