Don Rowson retires after 50 years in the aerosol industry There are many people in the aerosol industry who give of their time volunteering on the innumerable committees, boards and associations that support the business of the aerosol industry. There are countless people who attend meetings, develop association programs and do the myriad things that promote the aerosol package. However, there is one person whose longevity alone makes his service noteworthy. Don Rowson, along with his wife and co-worker, Sharon, plans to step away from the day-today responsibilities of running their consulting company, Industrial Hydrocarbons. It’s hard to remember the aerosol industry before Rowson, but he is indeed retiring after 50 years. Don Rowson, President & CEO of Industrial Hydrocarbons, Inc., founded the company in 1966 as a subsidiary of Suburban Gas Co. In 1970, he purchased the firm from Suburban and ran it as a family business that sold over 30 million pounds of hydrocarbons, fluorocarbons and chlorinated solvents per year. With the sale of the chemical division in 1984, Industrial Hydrocarbons became a consulting firm to the aerosol industry. For all the hard work he put into his company, the hours of volunteer work Rowson contributed constituted a career in itself. While a complete catalog of volunteerism and industry awards is impossible in the space confines of this magazine, a full list can be found at http://www.industrialhydrocarbons.com/history.htm. Don and Sharon will be sorely missed by a grateful aerosol industry. We wish them the very best on their next adventure together. Cocktails after a long day of industry meetings in the late 1970s.
