Recently, Cosmetic Industry Buyers & Suppliers
(CIBS) inducted 40 new members at its monthly
networking luncheon at Bond 45 in New York City.
Also at the event, the 2018 Rutgers Marco Golding
Scholarship was awarded to Rutgers University packaging
program student Sofia Silva. Rutgers professor Hae
Chang Gea, Director & Program Chair, Packaging Engineering
Program, presented the award.

Sally Beauty, retailer and distributor of professional beauty supplies, announced the
launch of Sally Beauty Cultivate—For Women by Women, a business accelerator program
to help female beauty entrepreneurs grow their business. Sally Beauty will accept
entries from female-owned hair care brands who are looking to expand their business.
The top brand will receive $25,000 in financial support, product distribution at SallyBeauty.
com and mentorship from the Sally Beauty team as well as other brand business
owners. They will also get the opportunity to get their product directly into the hands of
beauty influencers at one of Sally Beauty’s monthly influencer events.
“We continue to be inspired by all of the terrific women entrepreneurs we have met
over the years and believe in supporting women who are developing products to make
her best accessory, her hair, even better,” said Carrie McDermott, President of Sally
Beauty.
International Flavors & Fragrances Inc. launched new environmental goals focused
on emission reductions, zero waste to landfill and water stewardship. The initiatives are
known collectively as “EcoEffective+.”
“After surpassing three of our four 2020 environmental targets, I am proud to say that
EcoEffective+ will take us to 2025 and beyond,” said Andreas Fibig, IFF Chairman &
CEO.
“We have an unyielding commitment to the Earth and I believe that excellent environmental

Similarly, personal care chemical company AkzoNobel was recently presented with
the annual Environment Responsibility Award from the European Chemical Industry
Council (Cefic). The company was recognized for its partnership approach to develop
new value chains that enabled substantial carbon footprint reductions in energy use. This
included looking at next generation raw materials, delivering value and reducing risk.

In April, Symrise inaugurated its new creative center in
Pudong, Shanghai, China. Symrise’s production facility in
Nantong also celebrated the completion of its first construction
phase. China is one of the key sales markets for
the fragrance and flavoring manufacturer and, according
to the company, Symrise has been active in the Chinese
market for 36 years.
The new Shanghai creative center was built at a cost
of approximately €8 million ($9.38 million). Experienced
perfumers will develop almost 9,000 different fragrances
for the Chinese market every year at the center, which
includes a fragrance creation and compounding area
with doubled working space, an application laboratory
for customer samples, hair and home care test rooms and
