People in the News February 2017 Spray 29 Matthias Woelk has been named Global Operations Director for the Hamburg, Germany-based Lindal Group, the company’s CEO, Francois-Xavier Gilbert announced. According to Gilbert, Woelk is charged with enhancing production efficiencies to benefit Lindal Group customers in a range of market segments. He will collaborate closely with all Lindal Group functions around the world, Woelk leading all of the company’s operating units throughout Europe and the Americas. Avon Products, Inc. announced the appointment of Chris Wermann as CCO. Wermann’s responsibilities will include Corporate & Internal Communications, Corporate Social Responsibility & Sustainability and operational oversight of the Avon Foundation for Women. He will report to Sheri McCoy, Avon’s CEO. The International Fragrance Association North America (IFRANA) named Summer Johnson to lead its communications operations. Johnson brings 17 years of experience leading branding and communications on various levels. The Lubrizol Corp. announced that Eric Schnur has assumed the Chairman, President & CEO roles. Schnur succeeds James Hambrick, previously Chairman & CEO. Schnur, who has been with the company more than 27 years, was named Lubrizol’s President & COO on June 1, 2016, having previously served as President of the Lubrizol Advanced Materials business segment for eight years. The Consumer Specialty Products Association (CSPA) is seeking comments on its recently drafted method for aerosol products in plastic containers. The Plastic Aerosol Research Group (PARG), coordinated by the Research & Regulatory Management Council (RMMC), an affiliate of CSPA, has developed a voluntary standard test method related to the development and manufacturing of aerosol products in plastic containers, also known as “plastic aerosol.” Specifically, this method is intended to provide information on conducting evaluations to address regulatory requirements and identifying appropriate measurements during the development and manufacturing of aerosol products in plastic containers. In response to requests for an international standard, CSPA is proposing to include the standard as an appendix to the CSPA Aerosol Guide and make the standard available for sale to interested parties. Reviewers will have until Feb. 4 to submit their comments on the testing method to CSPA. More info: oktospray.com The European Aerosol Federation (FEA) recently released the 2nd Edition of two of its guidelines. Over several years, the FEA has investigated possible alternatives to the traditional water bath. Therefore, Guide on Hot Water Bath Testing & Its Alternatives - 2nd Edition is recommended by FEA as a practical contribution to good and safe practice in aerosol testing. Additionally, Guidelines on Basic Safety Requirements in Laboratories Dealing with Aerosols - 2nd Edition is recommended by FEA as a practical contribution to good and safe practice in the various operations encountered in laboratories engaged in the development or testing of aerosol products. More info: www.aerosol.org. As part of the company’s acquisition of Elizabeth Arden, which closed in September, Revlon is cutting jobs and streamlining certain operations as part of the integration. Revlon expects to cut 350 positions globally and projects integration-related restructuring activities will cost between $65 million and $75 million by 2020, according to a filing with the U.S. Securities & Exchange Commission. CARB Reporting On Dec. 30, 2016, CARB released its Reporting Tool for Multi-purpose Lubricants, available at: https://www.arb.ca.gov/ consprod/regact/2016mpl/2016instruction.pdf The Reporting Tool is similar to the CARB survey that has been conducted for the past three years. The report is mandatory for all responsible parties that sold Multi-purpose Lubricant into California in 2016 and is due by March 31, 2017. Any formulator that formulates a Multi-purpose Lubricant for a marketer that sells into California needs to report the formula by March 31, 2017, as well. This may be difficult if the formulator is not aware of the client selling the product in California. In this report, you must provide all R&D efforts that are ongoing to meet the future effective VOC limit of 10%, effective Dec. 31, 2018. This includes costs. Spray Industry News
