Spray Technology & Marketing Commentary Ava Caridad, Editorial Director On page 22, contributor Steve Hunt discusses the massive blast and fire last August in a facility in Tianjin, China. He reminds the aerosol industry that there are lessons to be learned from this tragic accident that killed so many people, destroyed so much property and contaminated unknown amounts of water and soil. While he stresses that an incident of that magnitude is unlikely in the U.S., it is important to remember that our industry deals with the handling and storage of chemicals and we should always be prepared for accidents. Steve Hunt takes great pains to provide safety and transport information to readers in an effort to help organize them against mishaps. Starting in the November issue, SPRAY will be going that extra mile more for readers with a new column called Pressure Points by Consumer Specialty Products Association (CSPA) Aerosol Products Division Staff Executive Doug Fratz. Fratz will tackle Aerosol Division initiatives and other important topics pertinent to the aerosol industry. For instance, if you’re like me and the finer points of the National Fire Protection Association 30B fire code hurt your head or elude you, then this monthly feature is just the ticket you need to better understand our industry. Be sure to check out this new column next month and let us know what you think. More good stuff on the way... The next time you attend an industry event, you may just find yourself wearing a lanyard sporting the collective logos of the National Aerosol Association (NAA), the Eastern Aerosol Association (EAA), the Southern Aerosol Technical Association (SATA), the Midwest Aerosol Association (MAA) and the Western Aerosol Information Bureau (WAIB). Colorful and practical, these lanyards represent a joint initiative spearheaded by the EAA. With the logos of each aerosol association pictured on the lanyard, the goal is to project a spirit of working together and speaking with one voice in relation to the issues and challenges that face our industry. While meeting participation may be regional, the goals of education and aerosol promotion are common to all groups. It is EAA’s hope that having all meeting attendees sporting the common lanyards will indicate an industry that stands together on issues and ideas. Ask for one (or two) at your next meeting.
