(P&G) has cut its global workforce by about 6.8% since last year, according to U.S. Securities & Exchange Commission (SEC) filings, a reduction of about 8,000 employees worldwide. The revelation came after P&G reported net income of just over $7 billion for the first-half of 2015, down 40% from a year ago. CEO A.G. Lafley, who will hand over the company’s reins to David Taylor on Nov. 1, had his bonus cut by $1.1 million after the company fell short of sales and profit growth targets, according to a company statement. Updates to the 2016 version include expanded Rail Car and Road Trailer Identification charts, updated information on the Globally Harmonized System for the Classification & Labeling of Chemicals (GHS) and new hazardous materials listed in United Nations (UN) Model Regulations. Jean-Paul Agon, Chairman & CEO of L’Oréal, reaffirmed the company’s intention to become “carbon balanced” by 2020. The announcement, made alongside noted environmental activist Nicolas Hulot, referenced the company’s success in reducing carbon dioxide emissions by 50% since 2005 and a plan to offset remaining emissions by introducing “carbon gains” in cooperation with raw material suppliers. Efforts will include the adoption of more efficient stoves for 22,000 shea nut harvesters in Burkina Faso and the introduction of cinnamon plants to patchouli fields in Indonesia, which the company says will help limit deforestation by providing farmers with an additional source of income.
