Overall aerosol product output in China totaled 1.7 billion units in 2013, a 24.3% jump over 2011’s 1.37 billion. The Committee reported that demand for aerosol packaging in personal care, food and automotive products is developing rapidly. Amid increasing population shifts from rural areas to urban ones, car ownership has risen. Other effects of Chinese urbanization include a more streamlined supply chain, improved manufacturing facilities and a rise in e-commerce. 1.96 billion tinplate cans for aerosol products were produced in China in 2013, a 17.4% increase over 2011’s total. Similarly, aluminum aerosol can production has increased 20% since 2011 to about 500 million units. Growth in valve output was more modest; 3.7 billion aerosol valves were produced, indicating a 4.8% increase since 2011. According to the Committee, a major challenge faced by the Chinese aerosol market is cost increases due to rising labor expenses, slow innovation, competition from other developing countries, the high popularity of low-cost products and “environmentally-friendly pressure,” among other factors. Overall, however, the market continued its rapid development in 2013, further cementing China as one of the world’s largest aerosol producers.
