Ball Corp. will cease food can production at the company’s Springdale,
AR, tinplate food and aerosol packaging manufacturing plant
during the fourth quarter of 2017. Ball noted that the Springdale
plant will continue to produce and assemble aerosol cans, cut and
coat flat sheet steel, and produce components used by other Ball
food and aerosol facilities. The plant’s affected employees will be
provided benefits, including outplacement and severance pay, in
accordance with company policies. They also can apply for open
positions within Ball.
Tekni-Plex, Inc. has built a 140,000-square-foot (13,000-square-meter)
state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Suzhou, China. Earlier this year,
Tekni-Plex announced a $15 million investment in the facility to support
the growing needs of the Asia-Pacific pharmaceutical and medical device
market. The facility will manufacture Action Technology’s dip tubes
used in a wide variety of food/beverage, Colorite custom compounds for
medical device applications, and pharmaceutical, personal care, industrial
and household pump applications.
The third annual Perfumed Plume Awards for fragrance journalism
will take place in New York City on April 11, 2018. Submissions will
be accepted through Jan. 31, 2018.
Fragrance articles must be a minimum of 500 words and focus on
generic information about scent in an original, creative and unique
style that engages and educates the consumer on the art and craft
of fragrance. The articles should give an inside view of the cultural,
historic, scientific and personal approaches to fragrance design and

The Specialty Chemicals Market Volume Index showed a pronounced
slowdown in August, reflecting the effects of Hurricane
Harvey, according to the American Chemistry Council (ACC).
Growth in U.S. specialty chemicals market volumes expanded only
0.1% in August, following an upwardly revised 0.5 % gain in July. Of
the twenty-eight specialty chemical segments ACC monitors, fifteen
expanded in August, nine markets experienced decline and four were
stable. During August, large market volume gains (1.0% and over)
occurred only in oilfield chemicals. The August data showed a 0.8 %
decline and is illustrative of the effects that Hurricane Harvey had on
markets.
Revlon will expand operations at its facility near Oxford, NC, creating
55 jobs over three years. The company will invest $16.1 million
to add production capacity for its Elizabeth Arden line of products.

Revlon already employs more than 1,300 people in NC. The expansion
of the Oxford facility will add fragrance filling and assembly lines
to its operation.
CPL Aromas has launched a £1 million ($1.3 million) scientific
research center, The CPL Aromas Research & Development (R&D)
Centre in Brixworth, UK. The new facility has the very latest “odor
scrubbers,” which means that fragrances can be assessed in the same
space within a couple of hours of another scent being tested, as the
scrubbers are able to quickly remove any odors from the initial testing
area. In addition to the Brixworth facility, the Group has created a
similar R&D Center in Indonesia as part of a recent £2 million ($2.6
million) scientific investment program.
CPL Aromas has also opened R&D centers with similar test facilities
in Dubai; at the Group’s global UK headquarters in Bishop’s
Stortford, UK; and in Malaysia, all of which were completed in the
last 18 months.
Jeen International, Fairfield, NJ, is adding two pilot reactors (50 and
100 gallon) at its manufacturing site. The reactors will be complemented
by heat exchangers and cooling systems to support the
growth of the company’s Jeesperse CPW and ICE-T technology platform.
The additions will allow for faster R&D-to-market production
and will also improve process capabilities, according to the company.
Shin-Etsu Chemical Co., Ltd. is expanding the production capacity
of its plant in Akron, OH, which serves its group company Shin-Etsu
Silicones of America. The amount of this facility investment is ¥2.4
billion ($21.7 million) and the expansion work should be completed
by the middle of 2019.
Cosmetic and beauty care brands with a presence in South America
have a new venue for ingredients collaboration. INOLEX do Brasil
in São Paulo opened a Demo Center geared towards the promotion
of safe, natural and innovative solutions in key areas that are shaping
consumer beauty products, including alternative preservation,
silicone replacements and palm-free ingredients.
Henkel has put into operation its new North American Consumer Goods
headquarters in Stamford CT, integrating several Connecticut locations into
one. Approximately 425 employees from Henkel’s Beauty Care and Laundry
& Home Care now work out of this location. In addition, the newly-renovated
space will also be home to administrative personnel, including human
resources, finance, legal, IT, purchasing and corporate communications.
Later in the year, Henkel will open a new research and development facility
and Customer Experience Center at this location.
