Industry News 42 Spray May 2015 The Western Aerosol Information Bureau (WAIB) will hold its 43rd Annual Conference September 11–13, 2016 at the Embassy Suites Monterey in Seaside, CA. As a cost-cutting measure, Procter & Gamble is offering buyout packages to thousands of executives, according to a report in the Cincinnati Business Courier. Up to 1,000 managers around the world are expected to accept buyouts by midsummer. The move is aimed at boosting the company’s bottom line and the price of its stock. Last August, P&G shed more than half of its brands in an attempt to spur growth and narrow the company’s focus to lucrative brands such as Tide, Pampers, Olay and Gillette. In other news, P&G revealed plans to establish a new $500 million manufacturing facility near Tabler Station, WV. The one million square-foot plant, expected to open in 2017, will have 700 full-time employees and will be able to supply products to 80% of the east coast of the U.S. within one day, according to the company. It will be the second new P&G facility built in the U.S. since 1971. Coster Group, a multinational provider of spray and dispensing packaging components and filling machines, has started production in a new facility located in Barlborough, Derbyshire, UK. The Barlborough plant is dedicated to the production of aerosol valves and extends over a 10,000 square meter (11,960 square yard) lot. Barlborough is Coster’s second plant in the UK; the first is located in Stevenage and is also dedicated to aerosol valve production. Barlborough is the latest addition to Coster’s production organization, which encompasses 16 plants spread over four continents. The decision to expand aerosol valve production capacity was driven by the increasing demand of the local market. Production in Barlborough is organized around a fully automated production system, with a lean organization of highly specialized operators and state-of-the-art equipment to achieve high levels in quality and efficiency. The facility is built according to the latest construction standards with special attention towards the environment and sustainability. Composite cladding, LED lighting and the use of the latest building materials make the facility energy efficient, according to Coster. The exterior is integrated with the surrounding landscape thanks to green areas and a modern design.
