workforce is Reabrook Ltd. of Derbyshire, UK, a formulator, manufacturer and contract filler of aerosol and liquid products for the personal care, automotive and industrial sectors. It has four brands—Reabrook Health & Beauty, Reabrook Contract Manufacturing, Arrow Solutions and Nielsen Chemicals. “Our apprenticeship scheme has maintained the skills we need to fill any gaps identified, as we need a workforce that is highly skilled, particularly to ensure product compliance,” said Lynn Chapman, Reabrook’s HR Manager. “Having an apprenticeship scheme means we have a highly competent workforce committed to the business and to their own continuous improvement and development. This has had a positive impact on our overall business performance and helped us to reduce costs and create better products.” In October, Reabrook recruited two 17-year-old apprentices—Harry Goodman and Adam Smedley. Both have started an Apprenticeship Training Plan covering Engineering Maintenance that is scheduled to last for 42 months. Reabrook is seeking to recruit three more apprentices over the next two years. “Representing the UK aerosol industry, BAMA has a responsibility to assist its members in addressing the known skills gap facing the sector,” explained BAMA Communications Manager, Amy Falvey. “Reabrook is a member company that has recognized this skills shortage issue and done something tangible. I’ve been proud to lead the initiative, with our partner, Cogent Skills, enabling companies like Reabrook to set up apprenticeship programs within their companies with the support of government funding. Reabrook is a fine example of a company which, rather than letting the skills shortage affect the successful running of its business, is doing something real to improve the business and working lives of local people,” she concluded.
