According to Ryan Montgomery, Aerofil Sales & Marketing Manager, the new line is rated at 200cpm (cans per minute) and can handle steel cans in multiple diameters. Aerosol Line Seven will have the ability to apply roll-fed labeling and product tube extension via straw machine. There will be multiple built-in and automated quality inspections throughout the packaging line. The new aerosol line will open up an additional 60 million units of aerosol capacity for Aerofil and will also open up additional capacity on all other aerosol lines that utilize hydrocarbons, DME, 134a, 152a, Nitrogen and CO2 as propellants. Aerofil is in the process of acquiring an outside warehouse that will serve as component storage to support the additional production volume that will be brought in with the new aerosol line. American Spraytech adds new plant, new R&D facility During the course of 2015, nearly all of the existing lines at American Spraytech (AST) were upgraded to improve production speed and efficiency. It has also purchased ancillary and process equipment to make pre- and postproduction 18 Spray March 2016 operations more efficient. In 2016, the company is in the process of its largest production capacity expansion to date—a new plant facility at its headquarters in Branchburg, NJ. It will house two brand-new, state-of-the-art through-the-valve (TTV) aerosol filling lines, which it will commission starting this summer. To support this added capacity, AST has doubled its alcohol and propellant tank farm storage capacity. Additionally, AST’s development capabilities have grown with a move to a brand-new R&D facility right across the street—including an expanded duplex laboratory, testing salon and innovation showroom. According to the company, AST has tripled its business in the last five years and the majority of that growth has come from new hair, personal care and over-the-counter (OTC) drug products developed in its William J. Lueschen Center for Innovation. “We feel that the more we collaborate with our customers to innovate unique and trendy products for the convenient and robust spray package, the better for our entire industry,” commented Manav Lalwani, Director of Product Development. T&DA enhances DUAL production In 2015, Toyo & Deutsche Aerosol (T&DA) invested in a state-of-the-art production site in Neutraubling, Germany with a new two-ton Ekato high pressure homogenizer and custom-made assembly and filling lines for THE DUAL under clean room conditions. THE DUAL is a new aerosol packaging system based on bag-on-valve (BOV)technology. By combining two pouches on one valve, it enables the separate storage of two components in one system and the discharge of two components with one push. T&DA was also certified according to ISO-9001 in April, with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) certification following at the beginning of 2016. ASM unveils new warehouse ASM Aerosol- Service AG opened a new hazardous goods warehouse in Möhlin, Switzerland, expanding storage capacity to meet rising customer demand, according to the company. The over 10,000 sq. ft. facility is kept at a climate-controlled 20°C (68°F) +/- 5°C and complies with applicable good manufacturing practices (GMP). Aurena Labs break ground on BOV pharma facility Aurena Laboratories, Karlstad, Sweden, manufacturer of bag-on-valve medical devices, broke ground in August for a new, 4,600 square meter (15,000 square feet) production facility in Karlstad, with expected completion in Q2 2016. “The expansion of Aurena’s production capabilities demonstrates a key milestone in the growth of the company and will open new doors for unique partnerships,” said Lars Hedman, Co-Founder & Managing Director of Aurena Laboratories. “Our recent product innovations have positioned Aurena to significantly expand its bag-on-valve manufacturing footprint.” In 2015, Aurena solidified two partnerships that will offer innovative drug and medical devices in bag-on-valve packaging. The partnership with Lipidor AB will combine the proprietary AKVANO formulation with bag-on-valve, which will offer customers new product opportunities across dermatology, wound, burn and skin care. In the announced partnership with Clover Hill Healthcare Inc., Aurena will manufacture and commercialize new Sparkling Nasal Sprays set to reach the market in 2016. “This facility will help us meet the growth in production of these innovations, as well as increase and accelerate innovation in new and existing product areas,” added Hedman. Positive measures In addition to plant expansions, there is also the expansion of ideas and industry. BAMA assists Reabrook with aerosol apprentice program In a classic example of “growing your own,” UK filler Reabrook Ltd. has taken advantage of an apprenticeship initiative offered by the British Aerosol Manufacturers’ Association (BAMA). According to BAMA, it has been aware of the skills shortage affecting the aerosol industry for some time and has since been assisting its members to fill the increasing void.
