Eurofragance has upgraded the fragrance evaluation area at
the company’s creative center in Barcelona and improved the
Home Fragrance Unit. It includes 10 olfactory booths created
with non-porous building materials, temperature and humidity
control and a quick cleaning system. The upgrade also includes
areas for focus groups and laundry care. The new evaluation area
joins other standardized testing upgrades at creative centers in
Singapore and Dubai.

The Sustainable Packaging Initiative for Cosmetics (SPICE) has
officially launched in order to guide sustainable packaging policies,
drive packaging innovation and meet consumers’ expectations of
environmental performance. Co-founded by L’Oréal and consultant
Quantis, the group now also includes Avon Products, Inc., Clarins
Group, Coty Inc., L’Occitane en Provence, LVMH, Shiseido, Sisley,
Cosmetic Valley (a French competitiveness cluster for perfumes and
cosmetics) and French Federation of Beauty Companies (FEBEA).
Topics to be explored by SPICE include: recycled materials, bio-based
plastics, finishing and decorating processes, tertiary packaging and
distribution, reusable/rechargeable/refillable packaging and take-back
programs, recycling disruptors and end-of-life streams by country.
AkzoNobel has had a busy year. The Dutch government has signed
an agreement with the personal care chemical company recognizing
its latest contribution to meeting national sustainability targets resulting
from investments at its chemicals complex in Rotterdam. It is the
third agreement AkzoNobel has signed under the “Energieakkoord”—
a pact between the Dutch government and over 40 public and private
groups that aims to reduce energy consumption, increase the share of
renewable energy and create jobs. AkzoNobel also has agreements in
place that recognize energy savings at its two other chemicals sites in
the Netherlands: Hengelo and Delfzijl.
In Texas, AkzoNobel’s chemical sites in Battleground and Pasadena
have been awarded the Excellence in Caring for Texas Award
by the Texas Chemical Council (TCC), recognizing its achievements
in plant operation and commitment to employees and surrounding
communities.
