Spray January 2017

Commentary You asked for it, You got it... Over the years, SPRAY has received many requests for a packaged report on annual, global aerosol filling statistics. Believe me, we too would like to see such a thing. It just doesn’t exist. What we can do is provide readers with individual aerosol reports by country, and thanks to the European Aerosol Federation, by continent in the case of Europe. Early in each new year, we contact every aerosol organization and federation on the planet and ask them to submit aerosol filling statistics from the previous year. We get many responses (some that politely say no), but we get far more non-responses, despite numerous requests. Why is that? We can only hazard a guess that either the organization doesn’t want that aspect of its business published or it simply doesn’t have the resources to conduct an in-depth survey among its member companies. Either way, this makes assembling a “global picture” impossible, even if we were a market research firm (which we’re not)! However, the statistics that we do gather are valuable information, and we include them in SPRAY as they are sent to us. Some international aerosol organizations respond immediately, some respond months later as their information becomes available or is embargoed until their annual meeting. Some organizations send 70-page annual reports, others send a pie chart and their warm regards. We condense or expand the information to fit our pages in a manner our readers have come to expect: clear, concise and to-the-point. This makes for great reading, but we realize is not the best research tool for readers who want to have global statistics in front of them to compare regions and/or year-on-year growth. That’s why a new feature on our website, starting this month, will help enable readers to find the statistics we do have in one convenient place. How it works To view a recent year’s global statistics from our archives: • Visit our website at www.spraytm.com • Look for the header Fillings/Country on our homepage and click on it • Select the year you are interested in and click on it • Individual filling stats for each country appearing in SPRAY that given year will be available as a PDF Try it, you’ll like it. If you don’t see the country you are interested in, contact that country’s aerosol association and encourage it to consider releasing its statistics publically. If they release it, we will print it. We hope you enjoy this new web feature. Please contact us with any comments or questions. 6 Spray January 2017 SPRAYTechnology & Marketing Cynthia Hundley Publisher chundley@spraytm.com Ava Caridad Editorial Director acaridad@spraytm.com Christen Harm Assistant Editor charm@spraytm.com Montfort A.
