The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced that it is proposing a ban on certain uses of the chemical degreaser and spot removal agent trichloroethylene (TCE), which has been identified as toxic to humans. The proposed ban comes as a result of a 2014 health assessment that determined TCE had the potential to pose “a range of adverse health effects, including cancer, development and neurotoxicological effects, and toxicity to the liver” to consumers and workers alike. The ban would prohibit the production, import manufacturing of and distribution of TCE in aerosol degreasing products, as well as its use in dry cleaning facilities. Additionally, the EPA is considering a separate regulatory action for the use of TCE in vapor decreasing products. Other uses of TCE, which has been included on a list of ten chemicals evaluated for risk under the he Toxic Substances Control Act of 1976, will also be examined by the EPA, though no regulatory proposals for those uses have been submitted yet. The British Aerosol Manufacturers’ Association (BAMA) has announced its Innovation Day. The event will welcome both members and non-members of the association and is free of charge for all attendees. With this investment project, Henkel increased the plant’s production capacity and installed new manufacturing lines, providing products for local consumers. The global pneumatic nebulizers market was valued at $490.6 million in 2015 and is expected to reach a value of $893.9 million by 2025, according to market research firm Grand View Research, Inc. The expansion is attributed to the increasing geriatric population base along with the growing need for home healthcare portable devices. The introduction of new systems featuring aerosol drug delivery technology with minimal drug wastage is expected to drive market growth. Luxury beauty company Chanel said it may have to leave its historic perfume site in France, where it has been located for decades, if the National Society of French Railways (SNCF) makes improvements to high speed train lines that run through the area near Cote d’Azure, where Chanel farms flowers that are “indispensable” for the creation of its luxury perfumes such Chanel No.5. According to Chanel, “the construction of a viaduct and the regular passage of high-speed trains over these fields of flowers” would force the company “to cease supporting its artisanal activities in the region.” It contends it takes approximately 1,000 jasmine flowers to make a 30mL bottle of its No. 5 perfume. SNCF says it wants to alleviate congestion between Marseilles to Nice with improvements that will cut an entire hour off the trip between the two towns.
