Spray Technology & Marketing Commentary Ava Caridad, Editorial Director There are many ways in which U.S. corporations support their communities, both locally and globally. We regularly see organized efforts within our own industry to support Habitat for Humanity or teams walking for the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life. These are commendable efforts and companies should be applauded for encouraging their workforce to participate in generating funds for those in need. This industry’s own foundation, the Alliance for Consumer Education, or ACE, celebrates its 15th anniversary this year with a new look, new website and enhanced programs. In addition to helping prevent inhalant abuse, ACE’s initiatives will now include Product Stewardship in an effort to educate consumers on the correct use, storage and disposal of household and institutional products. In these times, when consumers are demanding transparency from brand owners and only selecting products they trust, this seems like a well-timed strategy. We, as an industry, have an opportunity to make a difference in how the aerosol industry is perceived. Through your support of ACE, these initiatives can be fully funded and generate public awareness of the positive and safe aspects of aerosol products use. Spray plans to continue its support of ACE. We hope you will too. For the complete picture of ACE’s enhanced initiatives, turn to page 24. That was kind of Silly of us… In the December 2015 issue, our feature article covered one U.S. aerosol filler’s success in marketing to the dollar store channel, facing competition from overseas marketers that provide low-efficacy, sometimes toxic and sometimes counterfeit products. Within the article, we highlighted perennial party favorite Silly String, with comments from Brand Manager Tom Revelle, who spoke of Silly String’s struggle We apologize to our readers for the confusion and to the good folks at Silly String for our mistake. 6 Spray January 2016 Cynthia Hundley Publisher chundley@spraytm.com Ava Caridad Editorial Director acaridad@spraytm.com Montfort A. Therefore, imagine our chagrin when we were informed that the Silly String logo we used in our article was also, indeed, a cheap knockoff. I’d like to say that the sham logo was ironic and meant to represent the clever imitations that consumers should always be wary of…but no one would believe me. Represented on this page is the authentic Silly String logo. Editorial Director New Year, New ACE Publisher
