Spray Patterns AVA CARIDAD Editorial Director L’Oréal Canada employees recently participated in the 7th L’Oréal Citizen Day held in Montreal and Toronto, during which they dedicated one day to helping local community organizations. For this edition, L’Oréal Canada partnered with several non-profit organizations, such as the Women’s Centre of Montreal, which provides educational and vocational training to help women help themselves; Moisson Montréal, the largest food bank in Canada; Welcome Hall Mission, which actively works at reducing poverty in the city; and One Tree Planted, whose mission is to plant trees around the world. More than 300 L’Oréal Canada employees took part in actions such as collecting and sorting food and clothing, gardening, cleaning and beautifying green spaces throughout the day. Citizen Day involves all the L’Oréal subsidiaries around the world and 2016 saw 69 countries participating. It was launched internationally in 2010 and is now one of the main initiatives of L’Oréal’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) program “Sharing Beauty with All.” Fragrance and flavoring manufacturer Symrise is one of the five most sustainable large corporations in Germany, according to a panel of twelve experts of the 2016 German Sustainability Awards. The globally operating company from Holzminden impressed the judges with its systematic sustainability management, continual improvements both in the supply chain and within the company, as well as measures to preserve biodiversity. The sustainability awards were presented to companies of different sizes in a total of eleven categories during the 9th German Sustainability Day in Düsseldorf in November. The award is an initiative of the German Sustainability Award Foundation in cooperation with the Federal Government of Germany and various municipal umbrella organizations, trade associations, civic organizations and research institutes. At the Trophées du Droit ceremony held in Paris in November, packaging company Albéa’s Intellectual Property (IP) department was awarded the gold trophy for its proactive strategy toward global development. Albéa won in the Intellectual Property/Patents category, a selection made by a jury comprising more than 160 qualified professionals and from among 1,000 contenders. With a portfolio of more than 1,500 patents, Albéa has an integrated IP department whose primary role is to protect and defend the group’s patents and innovations, while having the freedom to deal with the contractual aspects of these IP assets. 38 Spray February 2017 French artist Thibaut Malet, in collaboration with street artist ZICS, uses locally sourced cherry wood to create decoratively carved spray paint cans. The cans are handmade by Malet in South France with laser engraved quotes “From the wall to Wall Street,” “Excuse my French” and “Some words deserve to be drawn.” They are then sent to London where ZICS promotes them to honor street art culture with the contrast between industrial paint aerosols and hand-crafted creation.
