translucent, frosted, powdery finish resembles glass tumbled smooth by waves. For indoor decorating, it has enhanced adhesion and durability and comes in eight colors: Rose, Ruby, Amber, Cornflower, Aqua, Ice, Sea Foam and Lemon. Krylon Stained Glass Paint adds a pop of translucent color to glass and home décor accents. It creates a translucent colored glass look on any clear glass object. The easy-to-use, one step process is for indoor decorating only and comes in seven new colors including Royal Purple, Tangerine Orange, Summer Green, Cranberry Red, Soft Blue, Cobalt Blue and Canary Yellow. Caps for all three glass paints were supplied by Berry Plastics. UK-based aerosol paint manufacturer has busy year… Oldham, UK-based aerosol and chemical firm James Briggs is to become the first company to commercialize the use of “wonder material” graphene in specialist paints, according to the company. Through a joint development agreement with Applied Graphene Materials plc, James Briggs will start incorporating graphene nanoplatelets into its existing spray paint formulations with a view to launching new high-performing primer paints. It is expected that the introduction of graphene, which was first isolated by the University of Manchester in 2004, will significantly improve the protective properties of the new spray paints. Furthermore, the two businesses will collaborate on potential applications for lubrication products, given graphene’s improved friction properties. Additionally, James Briggs secured a deal with Iran-based protective coating specialists Dana Chem in 2016, supplying it with its branded Hycote products, a market-leading automotive and specialist spray paint range. The company also entered into a strategic partnership with international distributor Zettex Europe BV. Based in the Netherlands, Zettex distributes aerosols, adhesives and cleaning products, with a particular focus on the construction and automotive markets. The partnership will see James Briggs become Zettex’s sole product manufacturer, extending its reach to Zettex’s customer network in Europe and the Middle East. This is James Briggs’ second entry into the wider European market, after it secured a deal with Ireland’s largest automotive distributor, P.R. Reilly, in late 2015. Maintenance, Repair & Overhaul The latest spray paint technology isn’t just geared toward crafting and home décor, much is being developed in the MRO (maintenance, repair and overhaul) sector. For instance, the Homax brand by PPG unveiled a new and improved formula for its Tough as Tile refinishing product, which helps restore the surface of old, stained or discolored porcelain, glazed ceramic tile or fiberglass surfaces. Formulated to meet the needs of professional and DIY consumers, the new product enables users to improve the cosmetic appearance of tubs, sinks or tile. In addition to being able to restore bathroom surfaces with a glossy, like-new protective finish, the product offers improved benefits such as faster dry time, making tubs and sinks ready for use just two days after application; easier product application, with a new spray tip for comfort, improved spray pattern and improved drip resistance; higher gloss, giving a porcelain-like finish; brighter and whiter color, making surfaces look like new; and tougher finish and increased hardness to stand up to daily use longer. The product comes in a can from Crown in two popular shades: Bisque, a creamy off-white tone (aerosol only) and White (aerosol or brush-on). As an alternative to its popular Maskote sold in bulk, ZYP Coatings, Inc. has introduced the new Maskote Aerosol Zinc Stop-Off packaged in an aerosol can. The convenient aerosol application to steel parts can help mask and prevent zinc-steel alloying for threads, weld areas and joints. Packaging is supplied by Chem-Pak, Inc. Also from ZYP Coatings is Boron Nitride Lubricoat Blue Spray, a trigger sprayer product that provides a permanentblue tinted spray coating of mainline, water-based boron nitride (BN) paint onto almost any surface/sub- 16 Spray February 2017 Continued on p. 31 Photo courtesy of TheManufacturer.com
