In the U.S., the Lacquer & Varnish category generated sales of $1.55 billion in 2015, an increase of 25.9% over 2010, according to market research firm Euromonitor International. Decorative Paints saw $8.43 billion in sales in 2015, which is a 30.3% jump over 2010. Breaking it down further, 458 million Spray Paints & Finishes were filled in the U.S. and Puerto Rico in 2015, which is 12% of all aerosol products filled, according to the Consumer Specialty Products Association (CSPA). This includes paints, primer and varnishes, as well as other related products, such as strippers, graffiti remover, decorative snow and other decorative products. Globally, the Lacquer & Varnish category grew almost 24% in 2015, compared to 2010, with sales of $5.1 billion. Decorative Paints grew 33.6% globally in the same time period with $33.9 billion in sales. In Europe, Spray Paints & Varnishes (including automobile products) accounted for 4% of total aerosol fillings in 2015, according to the European Aerosol Federation (FEA). With 84 million aerosol paints filled, Germany produced the lion’s share of Europe’s 183 million Spray Paints & Coatings. In China, 350 million Spray Paints & Coatings (including automobile products) were filled in 2015. (For more on Chinese fillings, see p. 27).
