Spray February 2016

February 2016 Spray 33 Packaging innovations Aptar Pharma launched the DF30Plus for products that treat asthma and Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD). The new DF30Plus metering valve version incorporates a Cyclic- Olefin-Copolymer (COC) neck gasket to further enhance its performance. DF30Plus offers several key benefits, such as step change improvement as a barrier to leakage; an ultra low extractible level; compatibility across a wider range of drug formulations, including those containing ethanol; it is suitable for all pMDI filling technologies; and a robust design for accurate and consistent performance. Doubling the existing range of Iris bottles, M&H Plastics, part of the RPC Group of companies, has produced four new standards. The bottles are elliptical in profile and the convex surface offers a large area for decoration or labeling while retaining an aesthetic form. The new standards are 2283: 50mL Non-aerosol Iris in PVC/PETG (with Iris overcap in HDPE/ PP: 8320); 5586: 75mL Iris in HDPE/PP; 5467: 200mL Tall Iris in HDPE/PP; and 5585: 250mL Iris in HDPE/PP. Ball Corp. is now manufacturing its new G3-HD—a two-piece, lightweight steel aerosol container—at the company’s Chestnut Hill, TN facility. Household goods consumers can expect to see the product hitting retail shelves in 2016. G3-HD is Ball’s next generation of steel aerosol packaging. The integrated dome design is the product of a high speed, coil-to-can manufacturing process and features high definition graphics to meet customers’ growing expectations for their brands. Moving beyond traditional steel aerosol manufacturing, G3-HD is designed to control sidewall thickness to accommodate various specifications. The recyclable G3-HD is available in multiple sizes and utilizes Ball’s decorating technology to provide a brighter and whiter canvas to accommodate up to eight-color, high resolution customer graphics. Developed by manufacturing partner Yonwoo, the Presto system from Quadpack Group comprises a pump that features a push button alongside a dispensing hole. Pressing it down automatically opens the valve, dispensing a controlled dosage (up to 1.5cc) onto the disc, where it can be wiped off with a sponge, cotton ball or finger. The hygienic, no-mess system helps avoid direct contact with the bulk, keeping the formula protected in the underlying airless container. Yonwoo’s airless technology further protects it from external contamination. The 50mL Presto Jar in polypropylene (PP) is suitable for high-value skin care products that require strong protection, such as OTC products, anti-aging creams and BB and CC formulas. WestRock Co. announced an expanded suite of fragrance decoration and customization options. The new Creative Studio for Fragrance represents a sampling of dispensing solutions for fragrance—pairing decorative overtubes, WestRock’s NoC invisible dip tube and customized collars and actuators with new capabilities in extensions for spray caps—to create an efficient, optimized aesthetic.
