The regulatory burden continues, with a push for global harmonization and red tape reduction. Matias Levit, President of the Latin American Aerosol Federation (FLADA) and VP of Sales & Business Development, Condensa presented Aerosol Products in Latin America. The population of Latin America was projected in 2015 to be 617 million, almost twice the size of the U.S. The population growth rate is 1.13% in all 21 Latin American countries and four colonies. Seventytwo percent of the population is concentrated in five countries: Brazil (205 million), Mexico (122 million), Colombia (48.5 million), Argentina (43.5 million) and Peru (31.5 million). The middle class is the main driver in the region, with almost one million new consumers a year and 90 million people entering the middle class between 2000 and 2012. Average growth of the gross domestic product (GDP) was 3.24% in 2009–2014. GDP per capita spending in this time was US $15,970, which represents 30% of the U.S.’s current GDP spending. Rural-to-urban migration was 75% in 2007; it is projected to be 85% in 2030. Latin American aerosol production increased 75% in seven years to 2.4 billion. Markets with growth potential include the Pet Industry (vet care, medicine, food/ nutrients) which saw 90% growth in 2005– 2015 to $60 billion; Pharma/OTC which has a $380 million market size but a current aerosol market share of less than 1%; and the Food & Beverage market. “The Aerosol Industry will keep on growing…here, there, everywhere…it is up to us to get involved,” concluded Levit. Alain D’haese, Secretary General of the European Aerosol Federation (FEA) presented Aerosol Products in Europe. The Aerosol Dispensers Directive has seen labeling corrections published. Maximum internal pressure has been increased to 15 bar at 50°C for metal aerosols and nonflammable compressed and dissolved gases only. Publication is expected by mid-2016.
