Personal Care Ingredients AIC Corp. Solodoc PG 410 (Polyglyceryl-4 caprate) from AIC Corp. is a PEG-free emulsifier that has a hydrophilic-lipophilic balance (HLB) value of 14.5 and can be used as an oil-in-water emulsifier. Solodoc PG 410 is in an easy-to-use liquid form and can be used in cold and hot process systems. It does not increase viscosity and can emulsify any oil phase type and concentration. Because of Solodoc PG 410’s emulsifying properties, it can be used in a wide range of personal care applications, such as facial care and body care; hair conditioners and shampoos; sun protection and after-sun products; and personal wash applications. Ashland Specialty Ingredients Ashland Specialty Ingredients (ASI), a commercial unit of Ashland Inc., offers Actopontin biofunctional, a bio-engineered peptide whose design is inspired by the latest advances in the role of dermatopontin in matrixforming systems. Learning from the shell matrix in various organisms, Ashland experts in skin biology discovered that dermatopontin is key to the architecture of the shell matrix but also critical to build and rebuild the skin matrix that degrades with age. BASF BASF’s Personal Care business presents EpigenistT, a new active ingredient that re-innervates the epidermis, helping it regain its youthful quality. When applied to the skin, EpigenistT reverses the natural degradation of nervous fibers, helping restart growth and counteracting the effects of time, according to the company. LOX-AGET from BASF helps fade skin blemishes. Extract of chicory leaves (cichorium intybus) promotes the regeneration of the layers of the epidermis, while its integrity is improved thanks to the differentiation markers transglutaminase 1 (TG1) and desmocollin 1 (DSC1)—a marker of cell cohesion—without impacting cell proliferation. Croda Croda launched Volarest FL, a polymer that delivers controlled, targeted delivery from sprayable emulsions, novel textures and the weightless suspension of emollients and beads in low viscosity fluids. Croda also announced that its emollient Cromollient SCE has the ability to mitigate skin irritation caused by surfactants, meeting the growing consumer need for mild and gentle cleansing products. In addition to being very mild, Cromollient SCE provides a silky skin after-feel and enhances slip, while being suitable for clear systems. DuraQuench IQ, a scientifically balanced moisturization complex, provides a new approach to effective skin moisturization and softness for both leave-on and wash-off body care systems. Arlamol LST is the first in a new line of sensory driven emollients to be launched from Croda that has a light feel and a high degree of skin spreading. The ether chemistry of this fluid gives it broad pH tolerance and compatibility with actives for overall formulation versatility. Hydrosativum P immerses the skin with moisture and has anti-irritancy properties, making it suitable for skin and scalp care. DSM REGU-SCENCE from DSM is an active carefully isolated and purified from a variety of white asparagus known as Grolim. This asparagus variety offers a solution to the naturally occurring cellular aging process by stimulating the skin’s own autophagy capabilities, thus helping to delay signs of cellular aging. According to DSM, extended invivo studies have confirmed the efficacy of REGU-SCENCE in improving the appearance of two major signs of aging in the skin: collagen loss and dermis thinning. Evonik Corp. New TEGO Carbomer 841 SER rheological additive from Evonik Corp. enhances viscosity in surfactants for personal cleansing formulations such as body washes, cleansers, liquid soaps and shampoos. It improves foaming properties and skin feel of body washes during application. The viscosity enhancer is a cross-link polyacrylic acid copolymer, packaged as a bulk high-density powder. Incorporating the new rheological additive into personal cleansing products gives formulators several additional advantages, such as synergistic thickening with electrolytes for suitability in a variety of applications; compatibility with cationics for flexibility of application; stable viscosities over a wide pH range and clarity in surfactant systems. Evonik researchers also developed a new way to build texture, foam and other sensory effects into body washes and shampoos with the introduction of TEGO Sulfosuccinate DO 75. The 2-in-1 cleansing-and-care ingredient can also be effective at relatively low use levels. The fast-forming, dense foam can add a new look and a creamy luxurious feel to body washes. The high-viscosity, cleansingcare advance is made possible by using TEGO Sulfosuccinate DO 75 to achieve a structured, lamellar liquid-crystalline phase that can accommodate a high oil loading. The structured phase contains oil in spherical multi-lamellar vesicles rather than in tiny emulsion oil droplets, as with traditional oil-containing personal cleansing formulas.  Gelest Inc. Gelest Inc. introduced Vertasil Limonenyltrisiloxane (INCI: Methylcyclohexenyl Isopropyl Trisiloxane), a multifunctional ingredient that helps improve solubility over cyclomethicones such as cyclopentasiloxane. The increased solubility permits greater compatibility with common raw materials, including natural oils and waxes, hydrocarbons and sunscreens. The cleansing properties offer formulators an additional benefit in a variety of personal care and cosmetic products such as cleansers, lotions, foundations and wipes. Vertasil TM-L01 is a silicone-modified natural product. It has properties similar to cyclopentasiloxane, including 18 Spray February 2015
