www.cortecspraytechnologies.com February 2014 Spray 47 ensure that the plant be modern, low cost and sustainable, explained EXAL. EXAL is also transferring its proprietary alloy technology from its slug operation in Switzerland to help enable customers to achieve lighter weight cans. With the addition of this slug capacity, EXAL becomes a vertically integrated aerosol producer in South America having the capability to produce slugs and cans and provide filling. The new slug plant is intended to serve EXAL’s can facilities in Argentina, Brazil and export to EXAL USA. EXAL Group has also opened a can manufacturing plant in Itupeva, Brazil outside of São Paulo. The property hosts two buildings; one will be primarily used for the manufacturing of impact extruded cans. The expected capacity for this location is 400 million units using state-of-the-art, high speed lines. EXAL Group plans to have four lines installed by the end of 2016 with employment of 125 people. The first line was installed in August 2014 and began production September 2014. The second line is to be installed in the first quarter of 2015. The third line is to be installed in the second Quarter of 2015. This location will serve both large global customers as well as customers serving the local market. The addition of these two new facilities plus the recent joint venture agreement with importer Casablanca Industries Private Limited in New Delhi, India further increases EXAL’s global presence and provides additional support and advantage to multinational customers. Ardagh Group’s Taree, NSW facility in Australia, which specializes in the production of aluminum cans and has taken a “think global, act local” approach in reducing the environmental impact of its manufacturing processes, won the 2014 Australian Aerosol Industry Award for Sustainability. Ardagh Group Taree has reduced its spoilage, water usage, energy use and greenhouse gas emissions while addressing the quality of used water entering the town sewerage system. In 2011, it was the recipient of the Environmental Achievement Award for its waste water installation. Since then it has become a founding member of the New South Wales Department of Environment & Heritage’s Sustainability Advantage Program and has accessed a recent NSW Government Level 2 Energy Audit to identify further opportunities for improvement.
