BAMA Awards Honor UK’s Best The British Aerosol Manufacturers’ Association (BAMA) announced the winners of the 2014 BAMA Awards at the annual Gala Awards Dinner held in Sutton Coldfield, West Midlands, UK in October. The judges were Iain Brunning, Head of Quality & Regulatory Policy for Boots Brands & Exclusives; Dick Searle, Chief Executive of The Packaging Federation; and Debbie Hunter, Director of Commercial Affairs at the Cosmetic Toiletry & Perfumery Association. Runner up: 32 Spray December 2014 Reabrook Ltd. for its Bouffe hair care range Bouffe, by Reabrook Ltd, was described by the judges as “a clever solution to an embarrassing issue.” The Bouffe product concept was developed jointly by Reabrook’s marketing team and business development manager in a venture with marketing agency Ant Farm Ltd.  The team spotted a gap in the market as a result of hearing a lecture about the problems of thinning hair among older women. Dry shampoos existed to help with thinning hair but there was no specialist product that would counteract the problem and give women confidence by disguising problem hair. The addition of silica silylate gave thickness and volume whilst the colors offer cover for roots. To ensure that the product performed throughout the day, a Fixing Spray was added to the range. Runner up: Unilever UK for Lynx/Axe The new Lynx/Axe aerosol has an enhanced formulation with longer lasting fragrances; attractive new can design and graphics; and new hardware designed by Seymour Powell and engineered by DCA, with can tooling by Mall+Herlan, lead development partners, Ardagh and Nypro, plus the internal Unilever Packaging team. Cascade Technologies Ltd Cascade Technologies Ltd. won for its Pressurized Metered Dose Inhalers (pMDI) Online Leak Detection System. Cascade addressed the increased recognition of the impact of man-made emissions on global warming. For the first time, specialist pMDI devices can be tested in the way that the majority of aerosols are checked for leaks. It benefits the manufacturers of pMDI medical products by offering tangible economic payback as well as environmental sensitivity. Swallowfield plc Body Butter Mist by Swallowfield, which specializes in the formulation, manufacture, packing and supply of personal care and beauty products for global brands and high-end retailers, has developed an aerosol spray for body butters that is believed to be the first of its kind.   Aerosol of the Year Sustainability Winner
