Personal care chemicals from NYSCC Suppliers’ Day This year’s New York Society of Cosmetic Chemists (NYSCC) Suppliers’ Day, held May 10–11, was the biggest show to date, with 3,199 attendees and 2,409 exhibitors, according to event organizers. Details and more exciting news regarding the 2017 event are coming soon. Here’s a look at a number of the suppliers at Suppliers’ Day offering ingredients suitable for various spray and pump applications. Aceto Inter’Actifs Lafrin AM-α is a new, natural emulsifier that enables formulators to create lotions and sprays with fluid, light and nonsticky textures. It is made from fermented rice, has anti-inflammatory properties and promotes the transdermal absorption of active ingredients. Lafrin AM-α is a light emulsion that allows consumers to apply additional active ingredients as part of their personal care routines. It can be used with squalane and jojoba oil in lotions and in low-viscosity, sprayable emulsions. Alban Muller Alban Muller offers a new, global full service, starting from the natural ingredient to the final ready to sell product. To improve the sensoriality of sprayable formulations, Alban Muller developed Lipolami ER, a milk thistle oil ester. Nearly as thin as water, it confers a dry touch to face and body oils while bringing a strong skin barrier activity because of its concentration in omega-6. AkzoNobel AkzoNobel launched its newest active for high-performing skin care formulations: ElfaMoist AC humectant. ElfaMoist AC humectant (proposed INCI Name: N-Acetyl DGA) penetrates inside the skin (stratum corneum), delivers and increases hydration and keeps skin moisturized for 30 hours, even after a single application. This humectant is safe and gentle on skin, performing without disrupting the skin barrier. ElfaMoist AC humectant was scientifically designed to deliver instant and long-lasting moisturization without negative sensory impact. Formulators can create high quality skin care products in leave-on emulsion systems and rinse-off products, according to the company. Bluestar Silicones Bluestar Silicones launched Mirasil Balance; an alkyl polyether modified polysiloxane used as a water-in-oil emulsifier for skin creams, sun lotions and foundations. The polyether provides hydrophilicity, the alkyl offers the hydrophobicity and the silicone offers a light and silky feel to the water in oil emulsions. Mirasil Balance has been designed to emulsify a broad range of oil phases and produces low viscosity emulsions with stability. Croda Croda’s recent launch, Prolevis, is a new, high molecular protein hydrolysate with film forming properties that envelops the skin, instantly smoothing visible surface wrinkles and imperfections. Offering consumer-perceivable skin smoothing, tightening and firming, Prolevis is the suitable choice for formulations, delivering a range of functional antiaging claims. Also new from Crodarom is Elfe Flower, an extract of Epimedium grandiflorum that has played a multifaceted role for more than a thousand years in traditional Asian medicine with its anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, antibacterial, anti-aging, anti-fatigue and moisturizing properties. Elfe Flower’s many applications include face, body and hair care. Covestro A new addition to the Baycusan prepolymer family from Covestro, Baycusan C 1010 polyurethane dispersion helps formulators achieve the sought-after combination of long-lasting hold with a natural feel for hair products. These properties are achieved by the raw material grade forming a flexible and elastic film around the hair, protecting it from weather without flaking or leaving a sticky residue—an important criterion for Asian hair in particular. Baycusan C 1010 polyurethane dispersion can be found in waterborne hairstyling formulations such as waxes, lotions, creams and foams. CP Kelco The Keltrol CG line of xanthan gum products can be used to modify the texture of personal care products and to stabilize suspensions, oil-in-water emulsions and enhanced foam stability. Creams and lotions made with Keltrol CG products provide lubricity, uniform spreading and pleasant, light skin feel. Evonik Evonik’s new Moisturizing Hair Styling Powder consists of hydrophobic Aeroil fumed silica and glycerin as the liquid base. When rubbing the Moisturizing Hair Styling Powder between the fingers, a spreadable cream with pleasant skin feel is produced. The creamy dust free product is to be applied deeply into hair and a voluminous hair style is achieved. Due to the mixture of Aerosil products and glycerin, for dry powder sprays, this formulation combines a balance of texturing silica and moisturizing glycerin. Givaudan Givaudan Active Beauty launched S3D Neurolifting Architect Serum and Regenerative Night Cream. Architect Serum is a combination of powerful 74 Spray August 2016
