Industry News Greensboro, NC-based Windsor Commercial plans to begin site work this spring on a $16 million warehouse facility in Burlington, NC for Alamance Foods, a manufacturer of private-label branded aerosol whipped cream, water, flavored drinks and freeze pops. The project is expected to be finished by year’s end. The Consumer Specialty Products Association (CSPA) is co-funding a broad study on access-to-recycling, according to representatives of CSPA’s Aerosol Products Division (APD). The study will include both aluminum and steel aerosol containers, as well as other types of packaging. APD executives stated that CSPA is one of 13 major sponsors of the study. The primary goal of the study is to determine what percentage of the U.S. population has access to recycling for various types of packaging and the results will provide data that will allow organizations to target programs and consumers to increase recycling rates for various packaging. The study is expected to be completed in May. Ardagh Group is now able to add a host of promotional and security features to its metal packaging solutions due to its partnership with Dutch watermark solutions company Filigrade. The arrangement enables Ardagh to offer customers smart interactive print technology that will take their brands into new areas of consumer engagement as well as protect them against the threat of counterfeiting. The technology involves the embedding of an invisible unique watermark code in print-ready artwork, onto a specific area or the entire print design of the product’s packaging. When recognized, the code interacts with a customer’s smartphone or tablet. The Eastern Aerosol Association (EAA) is hosting its annual Golf Outing and Workshop on Aug. 3–4. The annual golf outing will take place on 34 Spray April 2016 Thursday Aug. 4 and will be held at the Crystal Springs resort in Hamburg, NJ. Once again, the EAA will be playing the Wild Turkey course. Ball Corp. announced it will cease production at the company’s Weirton, WV flat sheet production and endmaking plant by the first quarter of 2017. The plant’s capacity will be supplied by other Ball facilities. Ball expects to record a total after-tax charge of approximately $21 million, primarily for employee severance and benefits, facility shut down costs, and asset impairment and disposal costs. The plant employs approximately 300 people, who will be provided benefits and will be able to apply for open positions within Ball. The Body Shop turned forty and unveiled a pioneering new global Corporate Social Responsibility strategy that will underpin all aspects of company operation. The new commitment will reaffirm The Body Shop position as a leader in ethical business and define the next stage of development. American Cleaning Institute (ACI), which represents the cleaning product supply chain, is hosting a five-part webinar series in collaboration with the Toxicology Excellence for Risk Assessment (TERA) Center at the University of Cincinnati, to help provide researchers with greater insights on asthma. Remaining topics explored in the bi-monthly series include: The role of toxicology in asthma hazard assessment (April 2016); Environmental contributions to asthma prevalence: assessing the link between exposure and disease (June 2016); Asthma risk assessment: A regulatory perspective (August 2016); and Asthma-specific hazard characterization approaches: A novel approach to a complex problem (October 2016). Spra y ACOA (The Alliance of Colep and One Asia) announce that Daizo, one of its member companies, invested in a brand-new, state-of-the-art aerosol manufacturing plant in Zhangjiagang, China. The new facility, known as Zhangjiagang Daizo Aerosol (ZDA), will be the second site for Daizo in China. The site was officially opened in November and will manufacture mainly cosmetic aerosols.
