September 2014 Spray 35 Industry News In an effort to cut spending, Avon Products Inc. announced that it will eliminate a further 600 jobs, mostly from within its corporate and North American operations. In the wake of declining sales and a $135 million settlement with the U.S. government over bribery allegations in China, the move should save Avon $50 to $55 million annually. Brazil made up 20.2% of the company’s revenue base in 2013; the U.S. accounted for just 12.3%. Cosmopack, the packaging production arm of cosmetics trade show Cosmoprof, announced a New York Symposium to take place Sept. 22 and 23 in New York City. Cosmopack's New York debut will feature 50 international cosmetics packaging manufacturers. The Personal Care Products Council (PCPC) released the North and South America Regional Guide, part of its International Regulatory Resource Manual, a 180-page document providing updated regulatory outlooks for 23 different countries. The guide can be downloaded in PDF format from www.personalcarecouncil.org for $200. To help ensure the company’s long-term profitability, Elizabeth Arden, Inc. released plans to cut jobs, eliminate less profitable businesses and remove some products. Following third-quarter losses in 2014, the brand will cease operations in Puerto Rico and terminate certain fragrance licensing agreements. The total amount of jobs to be eliminated was not disclosed. Elizabeth Arden anticipates $40 to $50 million in annual savings as a result of the changes. Lonza Inc. introduced the Lonzagard RCS family of spray disinfectants designed to fight Noroviruses, a genus of viruses that cause gastrointestinal illness and spread rapidly through contaminated food, surfaces and personal contact. Formulated to disinfect hard surfaces, the Longazard RCS family is effective against Noroviruses and related pathogens in as little as five minutes, according to the brand. Croda announced the approval of Solaveil CT-300 (Titanium Dioxide) and Solaveil CZ-300 (Zinc Oxide), two transparent grades of mineral UV filters, by ECOCERT, a global organic certification organization.
