Larry Peiros, retiring Clorox Executive VP & COO, was the recipient of the American Cleaning Institute’s (ACI) 2013 Distinguished Service Award. The honor was presented at ACI’s 2013 Annual Meeting & Industry Convention held in January at the Grande Lakes Orlando, Orlando, FL. Peiros was active in the work of ACI for over 15 years. He served on ACI’s Board of Directors for 12 years, as Chair of the Finance Committee and Treasurer from 2008-2009, and on the Board’s Executive Committee from 2008-2010. ACI’s Distinguished Service Award is named in honor of the late Elva Walker Spillane, the former National Purity LLC CEO who served on the association’s Board for 20 years. The award honors an individual for extensive or exceptional service to ACI, who promoted the growth and interests of the institute and the industries it represents, and who exercised outstanding leadership within the institute. 54 Spray March 2013 Editor The Consumer Aerosol Products Council (CAPCO) requests volunteers and donations for the annual National Science Teachers Association (NSTA) Conference taking place in San Antonio, TX on April 11-13. Each year, the conference offers an opportunity for CAPCO to reach out to teachers and others to help educate consumers about the benefits of aerosols and their recyclability. Industry members can help by providing samples to give away at the CAPCO booth and/or volunteering to staff the booth for a day. In past years, CAPCO has given away 1,500-3,000 samples during the three-day expo, including Sprayway Glass Cleaner, WD-40 sample sized lubricants, BP Blaster Garage Door Lubricant, Skintimate Shave Gel, KIK Corp.’s assorted travel sized personal care products, Faultless Starch’s Magic Wrinkle Remover and assorted Chase products. Two volunteers are also needed to work the CAPCO booth. To volunteer or donate products, contact: hvanderband@aerosolproducts. org. WD-40 Co. and Chip Foose partnered again to build and auction a custom charity vehicle, and their efforts paid off—to the tune of $170,000—to help care for children in need. The WD-40/SEMA Cares Foose ’53 Ford F-100 pickup truck was auctioned at the Barrett-Jackson Collector Car Auction in January in Scottsdale, AZ. The cream-colored truck looks similar to the one used to deliver the first case of WD-40 Multi-Use Product back in the 1950s, when the company was called Rocket Chemical Co. Foose, the hot rod designer and TV star who designed and built the custom pickup truck, was on-hand to see the vehicle cross the auction block and receive the winning bid. “What a way to kick off our 60th anniversary as a company,” said Tim Lesmeister, VP of Marketing for WD-40 Co. This is the fourth consecutive year WD-40 Co. has partnered with SEMA Cares, the charity arm of the Specialty Equipment Market Assoc., to build a custom vehicle for a good cause. The company’s custom Camaro, Mustang and Challenger raised money for the same two SEMA Cares charities—Childhelp and Victory Junction— and all four vehicles have raised a combined total of more than $570,000 for those charities. Childhelp provides services to abused and neglected children, and Victory Junction provides life-changing camping experiences to special needs and chronically ill children.
