2013 Directory of Contract Fillers The latest in filling news as well as SPRAY ’s annual A-Z reference for finding filling partners in the U.S. and internationally. The past year has seen some ups and downs for the contract filler industry, with a fair amount of plant openings, closings and relocations, as well as a number of mergers and acquisitions. Factor in Superstorm Sandy and other natural disasters, and the challenges mounted up even higher. In other filler news, Unilever opened a plant in Mexico to manufacture aerosol-based deodorants for the U.S., Canada, Latin America and Caribbean markets. Unilever will have invested $500 million and built a new factory once its five-year investment plan in Mexico ends in 2015. MBC Aerosol installed its first bag-on-valve filling machine in Europe, at Aurena Labs in Sweden. Aurena Labs makes its debut 34 Spray March 2013 this year in the Fillers Directory, as do several other new fillers. The Lighthouse for the Blind-Saint Louis (LHB Industries)— a non-profit entity that employs nearly 70 people who are legally blind— announced that its Power Green all-purpose cleaner/degreaser product earned a Bio-Based, Bio-Preferred certification from the U.S. Dept. of Agriculture (USDA). As a result, LHB Industries can now display the USDA’s Bio-Preferred program logo on its Power Green products. PLZ Aeroscience—manufacturer and marketer of specialty aerosol products in North America—acquired Assured Packaging of Mississauga, Ontario, Canada. Assured is a custom manufacturer of aerosols for the health and beauty aids, pharmaceutical, food and household market categories. The acquisition followed PLZ Aeroscience’s purchase of Canadian company K-G Spray-Pak in 2011.
