In other segments, Vet/Pet products showed a growth of 7.1% from 2.6 to 2.8 million units. All other Medical products were up by 8%, while Industrial aerosols grew significantly by nearly 50% (49.2% up from 13.5 to 20.2 million units). Paints & Lacquers were also buoyant with a rise of 7.5% from 14 million to just over 15 million units, probably driven by strong growth in the DIY market. The Miscellaneous category, which includes food-stuffs and novelties, nearly tripled, growing by 174.9%, up to 33.8 million units from only 12.3 million in 2011.   Strong overall growth At a time when the “Made in Britain” label is so important to UK growth, the aerosol sector can be pleased with the overall strong results, said BAMA. The aerosol sector has seen an overall growth of 11.5% between 2006 and 2011, and this dramatically contrasts with overall manufacturing figures, which have seen a downturn of around 10% in that period. Britain’s alarming export gap can be, in part, helped by this industry, as exports of aerosol products filled in the UK account for a significant proportion of the whole. Commenting on the overall picture, Dr. John Morris, CEO of BAMA, said, “During a difficult time for UK business, it is gratifying to yet again see strong growth for the aerosol fillings sector. Our resilience as an industry is testament to the popularity of this product format. We witnessed 9% growth in 2011 and to enjoy 5% growth last year is very pleasing for all those working in the sector. I congratulate BAMA’s members on their success.” SPRAY UK Aerosol Fillings 2012 vs. 2011 2012 TOTAL 2011 TOTAL 2012/2011 MILLIONS MILLONS % CHANGE INSECTICIDES 9.9 10.3 -3.7% PAINTS / LACQUERS 15.1 14.0 7.5% AIR FRESHENERS 172.0 182.4 -5.7% WAXES / POLISHES (Household) 28.7 30.1 -4.5% OVEN CLEANERS 0.9 0.4 149.8% STARCHES 5.5 4.7 16.3% OTHER HOUSEHOLD 78.1 77.3 1.1% HAIR PRODUCTS 90.8 89.8 1.1% APDs/DEOs/BODY SPRAYS 708.9 647.6 9.5% SHAVING SOAPS / LATHERS/ CREAMS 196.2 199.6 -1.7% PERFUME/COLOGNE 17.4 10.0 73.7% SUNTAN / BRONZING PRODUCTS 2.0 1.7 17.9% OTHER PERSONAL 12.5 24.0 -48.0% AUTOMOTIVE 32.4 42.3 -23.5% SHOE / LEATHER TREATMENTS 1.6 2.1 -23.2% HARD SURFACE CLEANERS 13.1 8.5 53.3% VET/PET 2.8 2.6 7.1% ALL OTHER MEDICAL 22.8 21.1 8.0% INDUSTRIAL AEROSOLS 20.2 13.5 49.2% MISCELLANEOUS 33.8 12.3 174.9% TOTAL 1,464.7 1,394.4 5.0% © British Aerosol Manufacturers’ Association 2013 June 2013 Spray 25
