Aerosol production in Japan by yOUMEI kOBAYASHI Several categories do well in a challenging year. T he Board of Directors for the Aerosol Industry Association of Japan (AIAJ) announced production figures for 2012. According to AIAJ, the estimated number of units filled in 2012 (January to December) is 514,262,000 units, a decrease of 31,951,000 units (-5.8%) over 2011. This is due to the production transfer of some mass-market products to Japanese affiliated factories Chairman, Aerosol Industry Newspaper Co., Ltd. TOYO Aerosol International and Thai DAIZO. Colognes & Perfumes experienced strong sales, with an increase of 37.4%. Waxes & polishes saw a 23.75% increase, while Coatings & Finishes production saw a modest .53 % increase. Other solid performers in 2012 included Other Personal Products (8.3%), Industrial Products (3.15%), Automotive Products (1.9%) and Miscellaneous (1.9%).
