April 2013 Spray 35 Mergers & Acquisitions Symrise has acquired the global fragrance business of the Belmay Group, an international developer and manufacturer of fragrances and perfume oils. The companies have agreed to keep the purchase price confidential. The Belmay Group, headquartered in Yonkers, NY, is a developer and manufacturer of fragrance creations, particularly in the segments fine fragrances, cosmetics and air care. Belmay generated fragrance sales of around $60 million in the 2012 fiscal year. In 2012, Symrise took over Belmay’s Brazilian fragrance business, which has been integrated into local operations. With this acquisition, Symrise is taking over Belmay’s entire existing fragrance customer and product portfolio, the expertise of its research and development department, qualified specialists as well as selected property, plant and equipment. Belmay’s CEO, Ted Kesten, will continue to own his company known as Scent2 Market, a design, development and supply chain management company in the air care segment. Symrise and Scent 2 Market have also entered into an exclusive supply agreement. Sun & Skin Care Research announced that it completed the acquisition of the iconic sunscreen brand Bull Frog from Chattem, Inc., a Division of Sanofi US. Coty Inc. and Puig S.L. have mutually decided not to renew their distribution agreement in North America, which expires June 30, 2013. This decision is the amicable end to a six-year partnership, during which Coty has significantly expanded the market presence for Puig fragrances, and allows Coty to focus fully on its own brands. As a result of this decision, Coty Prestige will assume selling responsibility for the Coty Beauty brands that are distributed in Prestige retailers, which are currently sold by a third party distributor. Subsequently, Puig has selected Clarins as its new U.S. fragrance distributor. Under the terms of this agreement, the Clarins Fragrance Group in the U.S. will provide back-office support services, while Puig will handle all marketing affairs for its own portfolio and will also manage key accounts. Puig and Clarins Fragrance Group will share a fragrance-dedicated sales force. Surfachem Limited announced that it will represent Givaudan's Fragrance Division, presenting fragrance compounds to the personal care, homecare and I&I sectors in the UK and Ireland. Renewable chemicals company Amyris, Inc. and global flavors and fragrances company Firmenich SA have announced a significant expansion of their collaboration to develop and commercialize renewable ingredients for the Flavors and Fragrances (F&F) market. Outside existing Amyris relationships, the new collaboration agreement provides Firmenich with exclusive access to the Amyris technology platform for the F&F market in exchange for significant funding over the next six years.
